To go back home they have no thought.
But why is Sunday so pursued
That she stays half the time she should?
Q1) Write the name of the poet of this poem.
Ans1) Rabindranath Tagore

Q2) Explain why the poet uses the terms ‘unkind’ and ‘lot’ for the weekdays?
Ans2) According to the poet, the weekdays are ‘unkind’ as they do not think of going back
once they arrive. They also come in a bigger number and hence, the poet calls them ‘lot’.

Q3) Interpret in your own words the third line in the above stanza.
Ans3) In a week of seven days, there is only one Sunday, which comes after a gap of six
days. This makes us feel that it disappeared quickly after a long wait, and we begin to look
forward for its next visit. So, the poet wonders why everyone waits for that one day.

Q4) Identify and explain the figure of speech in the first two lines of the above stanza.
Ans4) The figure of speech used in the first two lines is ‘Personification’. The poet has
given the thinking ability of humans to weekdays. i.e., a human quality is given to an
inanimate object.

Q5) Write the meaning of the word ‘pursued’ and use it in a sentence of your own.
Ans5) Pursued – followed / chased
Sentence – My brother intends to pursue his education in India itself.
