CHAPTER-IV

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRITATION OF DATA

INTRODUCTION

This chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of the collected data from the samples.
The main purpose of this chapter is to organize the data for easy interpretation. The steps
involved in data analysis are a function of the type of information collected; however, returning
to the purpose of the assessment and the assessment questions will provide a structure for the
organization of the data and a focus for the analysis.

The main purpose of this chapter is to organize and summarize the data for easy interpretation.
This chapter analysis and interprets the data collected using the questionnaire from 50 samples
selected at Shree Swaminarayan R.P. Badiyani and S.R. Badiyani Institute of nursing, Chhaya,
Porbandar. The data was collected to assess the level of knowledge regarding academic
procrastination.

Polit and Hungler described analysis as a “Process of organizing and synthesizing data such as
way that research question can be answered and hypothesis tested.”

The data calculation was carried out on the basis of the objectives formulated:

1. To assess the level of knowledge towards the academic procrastination among the
nursing students.
2. To assess the level of attitude towards the academic procrastination among the
nursing students.
3. To associate the relationship between knowledge towards academic procrastination
with their selected demographic variables.
4. To associate the relationship between attitude towards academic procrastination with
their selected demographic variables

24
The Hypotheses of the study were:

H1: There will be a significant difference in the knowledge and attitude towards the academic
procrastination among the nursing students.

H2: There will be a significant association between the knowledge and attitude towards the
academic procrastination with socio demographic variables.

The data have been organized according to the following sections:

Section I: Data on demographic variables of II and III year B.Sc. Nursing Students.

Section II: Frequency and Percentage of level of knowledge of II and III year B.Sc.
Nursing Students

Section III: Mean, Median, Mode and Standard deviation of level of knowledge of II and
III year B.Sc. Nursing Students

Section IV: Data on association between the level of knowledge among II and III year
B.Sc. Nursing Students with their selected demographic variables.

Section V: Data on the evaluation of attitude towards the academic procrastination

among the II and III year B.Sc. Nursing students.

SECTION III: MEAN, MEDIAN, MODE AND STANDARD DEVAITION OF LEVEL OF
KNOWLEDGE OF II AND III YEAR B.SC. NURSING STUDENTS

The mean, median, mode and standard deviation are the method used for the statistical analysis
of the data collected from the 50 samples using structured questionnaire on the academic
procrastination.

Mean – The mean score represents a numerical average for a set of responses.

Standard deviation – The standard deviation represents the distribution of the responses around
the mean. It indicates the degree of consistency among the responses. The standard deviation, in
conjunction with the mean, provides a better understanding of the data.

Median - The median is the middle number in a sorted, ascending or descending

Mode - The mode is the value that appears most often in a set of data values.

The above table shows that the analysis of association of selected demographic variables with the
level of knowledge using chi-square test. The test reviled that there was significant association
between the knowledge score of respondent with the demographic variable such as family
income, gender and the type of family because the obtained value was more than the table value
at 0.05 level of significance. But there was no significant association between knowledge score
of respondent with the variables such age, place of residence, occupation of parents, marital
status and personality. Because the obtained values were less than the table values were 0.05
level of significance.
