This take-home-exam is designed to allow you to show your ability to make use of concepts we have
discussed in class and to demonstrate your ability to apply the relevant materials in support of your
ideas. An answer that regurgitates class discussion or course material will not earn a passing grade. Your
answers must reflect clarity of thought, your use of specific examples to support your ideas and your
ability to clearly explain how your examples relate to the requirement of the question.

 All responses must be typed, double-spaced, and numbered. 
 Cite all direct quotes by putting the page number the quote is found on in parentheses at the
end of the passage.  
 Cite the sources using Harvard referencing Format

Answer ALL the Four Questions

Questions 1

Briefly describe what is meant by departmentalisation and discuss the five (5) common forms of
departmentalisation, their advantages and disadvantages.

Questions 2

White Forest Financials is a small investment firm, operating in an extremely volatile


environment. One of the company's two owners, David White, is of the opinion that it would be
futile for the company to engage in formal planning as the business environment is constantly
shifting. However, the co-owner, Marsha Forest, believes that planning is essential for the
company's success. Discuss the reasons why managers should plan in an organisation and
describe the different classifications of plans.

Functions, roles, and skills are the three approaches which were developed by management
researchers to describe what managers do in the organisation. Briefly explain any Two (2) of the
approaches with appropriate example(s).

As manager of a large team of engineers, you notice that your team is falling short of its goals
primarily because several team members are either not motivated to put in their best or are
downright dissatisfied with their jobs. You have option to follow Herzberg Two Factor Theory
or Vroom’s Expectancy theory to motivate your employees.
Briefly describe the Herzberg Two Factor Theory and Vroom’s Expectancy theory and
explain how these theories could maximise motivation among your team members?
