1. What is integrated curriculum?


 An integrated curriculum allows children to pursue learning in a holistic way,
without the restrictions often imposed by subject boundaries. In early childhood
programs it focuses upon the inter-relatedness of all curricular areas in helping
children acquire basic learning tools. It recognizes that the curriculum for the
primary grades includes reading, writing, listening, speaking, literature, drama,
social studies, math, science, health, physical education, music, and visual arts.
The curriculum also incorporates investigative processes and technology. It
emphasizes the importance of maintaining partnerships with families; having
knowledge of children and how they learn; and building upon the community and
cultural context. Integrated teaching and learning processes enable children to
acquire and use basic skills in all the content areas and to develop positive
attitudes for continued successful learning throughout the elementary grades.
2. Differentiate integrated from interdisciplinary curriculum.
 When the curriculum is based on different subjects, it is called an interdisciplinary
approach, whereas an integrated approach is based on competence. The
interdisciplinary approach entails studying multiple subjects, whereas the
integrated approach entails studying based on competence, in which one learns
based on his or her interests. Subjects are typically integrated and mixed in this
type of education to meet a combination of interest.
3. Describe Social Studies as integrated curriculum.
 In social studies, integration refers to the consolidating of basic concepts, facts
and knowledge in subjects that are related from recognizable parts to form whole
during the process of teaching and learning.
4. What are the challenges and their corresponding solution in implementing an
integrated and interdisciplinary curriculum?
