1. APPLICATIONS
Osborn Gy-Roll Reduction Crushers reduce 12mm feed to as fine as 10 mesh, - In a single
pass. The product delivered is ideal feed to: Ball or Rod mills; laboratory pulverisers;
gravity concentration tests such as tables, sink float or spiral concentration; sizing analysis
and sampling.
The Gy-Roll Reduction Crusher has been developed for crushing jobs in laboratory and in
pilot plants to provide an operation comparable to that obtained by commercial reduction
crushers.
The frame is a fabrication consisting of inner and outer cylinders having coincident
axes and held in a fixed relationship by radial spiders. The inner cylinder is flared at
the top end forming a fixed thrust bearing seat. This holds the spindle bearings and
houses the spindle. The outside cylinder is threaded. The lower end of the outside
cylinder is flanged, forming the crusher base. The spiders are shaped to insure
against salting of samples.
The base is composed of two parallel channels held together as a rigid unit by a V-
shaped chute. This covers the driven pulley, protecting it from crusher product.
Fabricated with this is the motor base.
This is designed in the form of a threaded cap and houses the precision ground
manganese steel concave. The threaded connection between the head and crusher
frame provides a convenient and accurate means of adjusting the crusher setting.
Four cap screws and a locking key hold the set position.
2D. HEAD
This part is roughly the shape of a cone segment, having a pitch of 45°C.
Concentrically within the head base is an anti-friction bearing. A pan-shaped
manganese steel mantle is bolted onto the head. The mantle base diameter
determines the size of this crusher.

2E. SPINDLE
A rugged nickel steel shaft that rotates on spherical roller bearings mounted on the
inner cylinder of the lower main frame. The upper end is machined eccentrically to
the spindle axis, having about 1,5mm eccentricity. This crank end fits into the head
bearing and, when the spindle rotates, a swing or rolling action is imported to the
head.
2F. BEARINGS
The spindle and head bearings are designed and dust-proofed by a seal ring and
require lubrication. The thrust bearing, of the ball type, is composed of two races
and balls. One race is fixed in the lower main frame and the other in the oscillating
head. This bearing, large in diameter, is grease lubricated with ENGEN GENLITE
EP2 grease and re-greasing is carried out when new manganese is fitted. The
bearing is designed to carry extremely high loads and assumes 50% of the crushing
force. Since the head bearing is separate from the fixed spindle bearing by less
than the width of the bearing, only a shearing force is imparted to the spindle
eliminating any possibility of springing or breaking of the spindle shaft.
Composed of the spindle pulley, motor pulley and V-Belts. The number of
displacements of the head imported by the rotation of the spindle is 350 per minute.
These are of manganese steel, ground for metal to metal fit against the head
surface and the upper main frame surface. The outside surfaces are similarly
ground smooth concentrically with the crusher axis. This ensures uniform setting
throughout the full crushing surface.
3.2 Rotate concave support ring (2) clockwise to reduce discharge opening or anti
clockwise to increase discharge opening. 1 Complete revolution is equal to 3mm.
3.3 Check opening by inserting a strip of wire solder between crushing surfaces and
rotate crusher drive sheave by hand. Measure the thickness of the flattened wire.
4. TO CHANGE MANGANESE
Remove concave support ring and concave ring as above. Remove set screws (33) and
concave retainer bar (5) and knock concave ring out. To replace, reverse the procedure.
With concave support ring removed, loosen and remove set screw (22) and lift mantle from
head. To replace mantle, reverse the procedure.
5. LUBRICATION
With the mantle removed, use a long jacking screw to remove the head from the spindle.
This will expose the thrust bearing (14), main frame bearing (11) & head bearing (10).
Lubricate with Genlite EP2 Grease. At the same time, check the condition of the seal ring
(9) and seal (15) and renew if necessary. To re-assemble, remove the jacking screw and
tap-fit the head to the spindle and bearing, ensuring that the head is square to the bearing.
Bottom bearing must be greased using grease nipple marked (38). Lubricate with Genlite
EP2 Grease. NOTE: Do not over grease bottom bearing.
