Kumon UK and Ireland Area Manager Training Plan

At Kumon we believe in, not only developing our students, but our Associates too; that’s why as a new Area Manager joining
Kumon you will have a full 12 month training programme. The following document will give you an insight into how your first
12 months will be structured as a new Area Manager.

Weeks 1 - 9
 Working as a Class Assistant within a Kumon Study Centre, you will start to gain an insight into
how a Kumon centre is run, understanding the basics a class layout and flow.
 Kumon Maths worksheet completion to include mental long multiplication and division.
 Kumon English worksheet completion to include punctuation, simple sentences; grammar,
sentence structures; synthesising information.
 Attend seven guided centre visits and five ‘you say’ centre visits with other team members, where
you observe the purpose of a centre visit and the types of conversations that are expected of an
Area Manager.
 Attend one internal instruction seminar designed to give you a basic insight into the
Kumon Method of Learning.
 ‘On the job’ training covering basics of the Area Manager role such as the purpose of the job,
how to answer calls, and statistics used within the Area Manager role.
 Completion of Instructional Assignment 1 to develop your product knowledge, linking Kumon
theory and practice.

Weeks 10 – 24
 Responsible for instructing a number of students at a Kumon study centre
 Kumon maths worksheet completion to include simultaneous equations.
 Kumon English worksheet completion to include text structure.
 Attend eight ‘we say’ centre visits where you work with other team members and provide
feedback jointly.
 Attend eight ‘I say’ centre visits where you attend centre visits with other team members
and provide feedback to franchised Instructors.
 Attend one internal instructional seminar designed to build on existing knowledge of the
Kumon Method of Learning.
 ‘On the job’ training covering aspects of the Area Manager role such as worksheet setting,
understanding Franchise Agreements and business support for Instructors.
 Completion of Instructional Assignment 2.
 Weeks 25 – 36
 Responsible for instructing a number of students at a Kumon study centre
 Kumon maths worksheet completion to include factorisation.
 Kumon English worksheet completion to include interpretation and summarising
 Actively working with five franchised Instructor centres.
 Attend one internal instructional seminar designed to build on existing knowledge of
the Kumon Method of Learning.
 ‘On the job’ training covering aspects of the Area Manager role such as visiting excellent
centres across the country and becoming involved in a project team.
 Completion of Instructional Assignment 3.

Weeks 37 – 52
 Responsible for instructing a number of students at a Kumon study centre
 Kumon maths worksheet completion to include derivatives and integrals of polynomial
functions.
 Kumon English worksheet completion to include elements of critique and text analysis.
 Actively working with 10 franchised Instructor centres.
 Attend one internal Instructional Seminar designed to build on existing knowledge of
the Kumon Method of Learning.
 ‘On the job’ training covering aspects of the Area Manager role such as planning and
reviewing centre action plans.
 Completion of Instructional Assignment 4.

Weeks 52 +
 Graduation from the Unified Area Manager Training Programme!
 Responsible for full area!
