TESTING OF A RECTIFIER CIRCUIT
Aim/Objective:

1.To study and perform soldering of a full wave bridge rectifier circuit on a
printed circuit board.

Equipment/Components Required:

S.No Device Rating Quantity

1 Vsine 100V, 50Hz 1
2 Resistor 10 ohm 1
3 Diode 1
4 Bridge 1
5 Oscllioscope 1
6 Connecting wires As
required
7 Ground 1
Note: Theoretical calculations should be done before selecting the Ammeter/Voltmeter and connecting the
ciruit.

Precautions:

1. Energize the circuit with the presence of Lab instructor / Faculty.

2. Make sure that you have good internet connectivity.
3. Ensure that you choose the correct devices in the software.

Tools: PROTEUS 8 SOFTWARE

Procedure:
1. Select the required devices from the proteus 8 software.
2. Arrange the set-up as shown in the figure below.
3. Click ‘run’ to run the circuit.
4. Obtain the graph.

THEORY:
A rectifier is an electrical device which converts an alternating current into a
direct one by allowing a current to flow through it in one direction only.
A half wave rectifier is defined as a type of rectifier that only allows one half-
cycle of an AC voltage waveform to pass, blocking the other half-cycle. Half-
wave rectifiers are used to convert AC voltage to DC voltage, and only require a
single diode to construct.
Full wave rectifier is the semiconductor devices which convert complete cycle
of AC into pulsating DC. Unlike half wave rectifiers which uses only half wave
of the input AC cycle, full wave rectifiers utilize full wave.

Analysis of Results & Conclusion:
Case1- Regulator is at 0%

The fan speed is minimum in this case. The lamp glows as the circuit is
complete.

Case-2 Regulator is at 50%

The regulator is at 50%, hence the speed of the fan is slower than 100% and
faster than 0%. The lamp will glow since the switch is turned on.

Case-3 Regulator is 100%

The regulator is at 100%, hence the speed of the fan is the maximum. And the
lamp glows since the circuit is complete.
