2-2. Is There No Hope At All?

¿No hay esperanza en absoluto?

He was drenched in his urine and feces from his drunken stupor, bleeding profusely until he
became unconscious. I took this poor stinky man to a nearby Kim’s medical clinic.
cercana.

When we arrived, he was already dead from a cracked and opened skull. He had to get 37
stitches. The doctor said, “I did an emergency treatment but, he is in dire situation. Take him
to a major hospital in Gwangju immediately.” So, I took him to Naju General Hospital.

In the Naju hospital’s emergency room, because of foul smell, all the people were covering
their noses and avoiding him; and some even went off another hospital due to the strong
stench.

I took his clothes off and washed him. Some people asked, “How could you wash his private
part?” I was in my 30s then. So, I answered, “It does not matter. It is like a finger. Think of it
as if you are living with your finger as a private part and cover it in clothes.
Le quité la ropa y lo lavé. Algunas personas preguntaron: "¿Cómo pudiste lavar su parte
íntima?" Entonces yo tenía 30 años. Entonces, respondí: “No importa.
ropa.

Now modern Certified Nursing Assistants also wash men too, but there was no such
system practiced in the past.
If you take the clothes off the finger, won’t you be shameful? It is just like a finger.” I took
his clothes off and washed all the blood off from his body with Julio.

However, the doctor did not even touch him and said, “He lost too much blood, and there is
no hope. Take him out of this hospital.”
The doctor didn’t ask me to take him to another major hospital. He told me to take the man
home.
hombre a casa.

So, I prayed right there while I continued to wash the blood off his body.
Even the nurses and doctors, complained of the stench and said, “Take him out of this
hospital immediately.”

hombre a casa.

Nevertheless, I continued, and I bought a new set of clothes and dressed him.
It was 5:30 P.M. It was 10:00 A.M. when I found him and now, he finally woke up.
He uttered, “Angelic lady!” I thought he just called me that out of gratitude.
However, when I looked closely at his face, I realized he was the man whom I met at
grandfather Bong’s house.

To avoid judgement from others, I used to bring food to grandfather Bong at night. And as
the man had no place to sleep, he sometimes slept in Bong’s house.

Whenever I brought food to his house, even though grandfather Bong’s house was cramped
and untidy, he would say to the man who slept in his house, “Hey, hey! Hurry up and go
home!” but, often ended up having supper with the man. It was he who shared love with me
at the time. That was why he called me “Angelic Lady”.

¡Date prisa
y vete a casa!
