Module 1 Paper OGL 365

Hi, John Smith! Welcome to the first day of the rest of your life! Working at Starbucks has been

such an amazing job opportunity for myself, yet I had no idea how long I would be at the company for.

This company is so great. The benefits of Starbucks are amazing! From health insurance, sick time,

vacation time, 401 K, stock plans, and free college at ASU online! There are so many people who start

working here young and end up staying for a lifetime due to the amazing benefits! My name is Cecilia

and I will be working with you. I will let you in on some important details on how to succeed in this

company as a barista. Hope this helps.

At Starbucks we are known for providing each and every customer with the best customer

experience. While starting this job keep in mind that the customer is always right! Formal Rules that

we must be aware of is that at Starbucks you must have a manager check your temperature before

going onto the floor. If your temperature is too high we are going to have to send you home due to

covid rules and regulations. Some informal rules that we have made up as a team is to always dump the

mop bucket after you use the mop! Many times whoever mopped will leave the bucket full with the

dirty water, so together we came up with this rule to make sure whoever used it dumps it! Make sure

you follow the dress code! There are more regulation on women's dress code such as no nail polish,

hair has to be up, buy mens dress code is to keep a clean haircut / beard trim, and to wear dark

colors.Your new manager also likes it when we clock in on the i pads and not the computer in the back,

so keep that in mind when you come into your shift and clock on! While you are first clocking into
work make sure you have your apron on and you must wear a name tag! During your first few days it

may be difficult to navigate typing on the order screen when people order and remembering drink

recipes! Taking a picture of the order screen really helped me during my first few days because after

my shift I was able to go home and study! Doing this really helped me when I was new and still trying

to figure everything out.

Make sure to always try new drinks! When customers ask you what you recommend or think of

a certain drink it is important to be able to give your honest opinion! Describe the beverage to them and

explain why you do like it or don’t. As a Starbucks partner I take pride in connecting with the

customers. When you are working at the window our manager expects us to speak with the customer at

the window until the drinks are ready to be handed out. If you ever have any problems with the

company make sure you let our manager know and if he is no help contact our district manager! She is

above our manager and is very helpful when you have questions about benefits and other situations that

our manager cannot help with! She also responds to text messages which I really like!

Right away you will need to learn the basics of drinks. How many pumps of syrup go into what

size drink and so on. Make sure you learn the sizes! Tall, Grande, Venti, and Trenta! That was a

struggle for me when I was new because I never really went to Starbucks much before working there!

The best part of the job is the free drinks and food items during your shift! Each shift you have

unlimited drink markout and one single food markout! It is a lot of fun trying different drinks and even

coming up with recipes of your own during breaks or down time at work. We also get a bag of coffee

markout each week! At Starbucks each employee is referred to as a partner. No matter what position

you are in we are all partners. I really respect the company for referring us in this way because as a

barista I feel equally as important as other positions higher up. We all work together to keep the store

running no matter what position we are in. There is some vocabulary customers use that we aren't

taught or is on our menu. Customers will ask for a “dirty chai tea latte”, which is just a chai tea latte

with a shot of espresso in it. Or a “zebra hot chocolate” which is just a hot chocolate with white
chocolate and dark chocolate syrup in it. These terms come up very often so if you can try to take note

of them!

I am looking forward to meeting you on your first day of work! Feel free to ask me or our other

co-workers any questions you may have! Your first few weeks will definitely feel overwhelming, but

don’t give up! I hope you enjoy your time working for this amazing company and take advantage of all

the benefits they provide for us partners!
