For this scenario I am working as a finance manager for Starbucks in their corporate office. As
a finance manager I am responsible for the financial health of the organization by keeping track
of financial reports, planning investment activities, and planning long term financial goals for
Starbucks. I will overlook all finances as I am curious to learn what exactly Starbucks invests in
and how much they truly bring in to the company. A common myth about Starbucks is that their
only goal is to put local coffee shops out of business. Being a finance manager, I will be able to
see how above and beyond they truly go to put other shops out of business.
2) Describe how the human resources of the organization influenced the situation.
The human resource department at Starbucks takes care of so much! They work in functional
teams with recruiting, learning and development, education, and solving problems employees may
face. Starbucks provides their employees with lots of different benefits, from 401K, Spotify premium
music, free food/drinks, ASU college tuition, health benefits, and more! The human resource
department takes care of any issues that Starbucks partners may face with their benefits, pay, and are
3) Recommend how you would use the human resources for an alternative course of action
Human resource is a crucial job position for any company! To work in human recourses, one
needs to be a great communicator, a strategic thinker, and being a risk taker! HR needs to take
chances as they do the right thing and lead employees in the company as they are the only one

who takes care of their employees. In Starbucks there is a large push to hire people from other
stores, who have worked for licensed stores, and referred by friends. My manager has only
hired people that have been referred to him from other employees I work with and those from
licensed Starbucks stores. I also believe my store lacks a lot of diversity! I am not sure if every
single store has the same issue, but I believe it is dangerous for our store to not have much
4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned about this
frame.
Personally, I would have tried to keep too many acquittances from forming within a
store. I don’t think managers should hire people that their employees are friends with or know.
There have been incidents where a coworker of mine and her friend were no longer friends, yet
still worked together. They had lots of drama and one of them ended up transferring to another
store. I think my manager should hire different groups of people, not those who are already
friends. A coworker of mine has reached out to HR about this problem and wants to do
something about.
