PCA-Human Resource Frame Worksheet

Worksheet Objectives:
1. Describe the human resource frame
2. Apply the human resource frame to your personal case situation

Complete the following making sure to support your ideas and cite from the textbook and other
course materials per APA guidelines. After the peer review, you have a chance to update this and
format for your Electronic Portfolio due in Module 6.

1) Briefly restate your situation from Module 1 and your role.

My current role is a reservation specialist, I take calls to facilitate revenue and

schedule services. I also aim to solve issues before they need management intervention.

My situation involves coworkers who do not align with the company values and the lack

of boundaries when it comes to managing issues that arise between coworkers. Another

big issue related is not having the proper channels of support for reporting misconduct.

2) Describe how the human resources of the organization influenced the situation.

Human Resources of the organization influenced the situation greatly because

there was no human resources. To start, there was no intervention by a human resources

sector in this company as the company is still growing. When the situation occurred, we

were directed to follow the chain of command, which was the spa managers. The spa

managers were aware but there were no solutions to this matter being presented.

3) Recommend how you would use the human resources for an alternative course of
action regarding your case.

Having a human resources team would help establish the baseline for problem

solving. Human resources serves as a company and employee mediator, building

1
connections and working towards solutions without added hostility. I would use an

alternative course of action regarding my case which ideally would be to go to a human

resource personell instead of the chain of command. This would help solve the issue as

Human Resources is designed to “empower teams to participate, foster teams, and bring

meaning to work (Bolman & Deal, 2017)” This quote found in the human resource

readings for module 3 brings a lot of comfort to me as an employee. If employees have

outlets and consistent encouragement from the higher-ups, they would feel more

empowered to express discomfort and end up staying with the company longer since they

feel heard.

Having a direct contact with HR is not only more productive since it is a direct

approach to solving internal workplace issues without interefering with daily workplace

matters. The human resources team would establish boundaries in the workplace and

define ways to invest in the employees, reward them, and hire employees that align with

the companies values (Bolman & Deal, 2017). Every company should have a human

resources team.

4) Reflect on what you would do or not do differently given what you have learned
about this frame.

Knowing what I know now from the human resources frame, it has compelled me to

focus on human resources. Human Resources is an act of leadership that focuses on improving

team dynamics and fighting for it’s employees when needed. I like that the goal of Human

Resources is to improve the quality of life for it’s employee’s and it is needed in every

workplace. The main change I would make would be a more direct approach. I would have an

open conversation with my coworker and be completely honest with them. I did not go that

2
direction and instead insisted on going another outlet to avoid hostility which created a tense

workplace environment. I think my approach would have been more appropriate if there was an

HR but I did not get lucky in that sense.

In a large company it could be possible to solve issues without having to directly

communicate with the offender, however in my small team environment that was clearly not the

case. With having an open conversation with this person, it could have potentially turned out

better but it could have been worse. I definitely think honesty is the best policy, but I am not sure

I am equipt with the right tools incase the conversation went south.
