21st century learning is describes as developing

learning, literacy and life skills as

part of the classroom experience. Learning skills encompass critical thinking, creativity,
collaboration and communication, which have been identified as essential for
successfully adapting to modern work environments. It also prepares students for
daunting work, citizenship, and life. It is said that globalization, new technologies,
migration, international competition, changing markets, and transnational
environmental and political challenges all drive the acquisition of skills and knowledge
needed by students to survive and succeed in the twenty-first century. I think and
believe that these are all true since I am currently studying and almost done in my full
years of studying. But this is not just applicable to students but to everyone especially
who are in the real world society now like teachers who are in education department,
economists or business-oriented individuals, people in the law industry and related
causes, politicians, foundations, and researchers who refer to these as higher-order
skills and complex thinking and communication skills that we all need to have. Since this
is the first part and introduction of the lessons that we have tackled, the other literacies
that encompassed this type of new learning are taught with emphasis, good
understanding and delivery. By having and equipped with all 21 st century skills and
characteristics such as having multicultural awareness and appreciation, open to
change, initiative and entrepreneurialism, appreciate trial and error approach to
learning new skills, learn by doing, can multi-task, information, communication,
technology and media literate, and often have higher levels of digital literacy than their
parents or teachers, most students and learners of 21 st century are natural
investigators, researchers and synthesizers of information. In addition, I have learned in
this lesson that it is important to be versatile, adaptive to change and be open to
always analyze and filter knowledge that we encounter and discover every day.
Innovations worldwide make things easier and globally we should also be competitive
and as their result of learning, they become respectful, rigour and what they apply in
their actions are relevant to what they have learned all throughout. So this comes the
thought that learning is a never-ending process and learners must commit to this
lifelong learning and also are constant critical thinkers and well equipped to information
that needed to take actions in the future. Also, I will include short descriptions of
different literacies since these we’ll be tackled and focused later on different reflections.
The first one is the Arts and Creativity literacy which that can be manifested in creative
ways of problem-solving and expressed through the production of various art works.
Ecoliteracy that entails acquiring knowledge about climate change, pollution, loss of
natural habitats and biodiversity as well as the impacts of environmental problems on
human lives. Next is the Cyberliteracy/Digital Literacy (Information and ICT Knowledge)
which is based on the reality that societies and workplaces have now become more
information-driven. Workplaces of the 21st century rely heavily on electronic (digital)
forms of data storage and management as well as in the area of communications. Then
the financial literacy which teachers and students are expected to be knowledgeable
about the basics of economics and financial management. Next is the media literacy
where teachers and students are expected to be knowledgeable and skilled in the area
of communications particularly the media. Then the social/emotional literacy which talks
about the emotional intelligence that must also be developed to be able to effectively
manage the stresses of a fast-paced 21st century society. Lastly is the globalization and
multicultural literacy that as teachers and students, we need to develop a culture of
respect for cultural diversity. There is value in having a perspective as a global citizen
whose local actions can have an impact on the wider global arena. These 21 st century
literacies are the facets to pillars of learning the learning to know, learning to do,
learning to live together and learning to be and as citizens of this new century and
generation, our hard work and perseverance always count as to what we will be in the
future in whatever we do today.
