8.0 APPENDIX A: NOZZLE LOAD TABLE

Doc. No. FWCT-DOC-1000 Rev. No. 0 Page 3 of 4

1.0 SCOPE
The purpose of this document is to summarize the minimum requirements for the design,
fabrication, non-destructive examination, inspection, surface preparation, priming and painting
and preparation for shipment of shop fabricated flat wall and cylindrical, carbon steel,
atmospheric tanks.
Typical applications include Corrugated Plate Separators (CPS), Quadricells (Q-Cells), API Separators,
DNF/DGF Tanks, Flash/Floc Tanks and general purpose mixing tanks.

2.0 DESIGN
Tanks are analyzed using Risa 3D structural design software. Tank shell is analyzed using Finite
Element Analysis. Allowable stress is in accordance with API 650. Rectangular tank stiffeners and
tank support beams are designed to AISC/ASD. Structural design loads and load combinations
are per ASCE 7 or IBC Chapter 16. Tanks are designed with vent openings as required by API
2000.
- Plate thickness is 3/8” (10mm) minimum. Corrosion allowance is 1/16” (1.5 mm)
minimum.
- Tank wall and bottom plate deflection shall not exceed L/240.
- Shell nozzle flanges shall meet requirements of ASME B16.5 for sizes up to NPS 24.
For sizes larger than NPS 24 but not greater than NPS 60, flanges shall meet the
requirements of ASME B16.47, Series A or Series B. Nozzle attachment to shell or
insert plates shall be by full penetration welds.
- Nozzle loads are according to the nozzle load table in Appendix A.
- Structural steel wide-flange shapes, including WT shapes, shall be in accordance
with ASTM A992/A992M, unless otherwise specified.
- All other structural shapes, plates, and bars shall be in accordance with ASTM
A36/A36M, unless otherwise specified.
- All fasteners are zinc plated with yellow dichromate finish.

3.0 FABRICATION
Tanks are of welded construction with WPS/PQR according to ASME Section IX. Welder
certification made available upon request.
Mill Test Reports (MTR) according to BS EN 10204 3.1 for main plate material will be provided at
shipment. Other MTR’s can be provided if specified at time of order.
All equipment is freed of weld spatter, arc burns, gouges, oil, grease and general shop soil. All
weld splatter is removed by grinding or chipping.
Continuous seal welding required on all joints. Tank shell and bottom plate joints to be full
penetration welds.
Flat wall tanks are fabricated so plane surfaces are flat within the following tolerances.
- Using a horizontal sweep board 36” long, flatness tolerances shall not exceed +1/8” /
-¼” for the tank bottom plates.
- Using a vertical sweep board 36” long, flatness tolerances shall not exceed (+/-) ¼”
for the tank shell plates.

4.0 NON-DESTRUCTIVE TESTING

Weld inspection and testing will include spot radiograph per UW-52, one spot per 50 foot
increment.
The welds to be examined in each designated lot include the work product of each welder or
welding operator whose welds are part of the lot.
Tanks are leak tested in fully flooded condition for a minimum of two (2) hours.
Magnetic Particle Inspection is performed on each lifting lug weld.

5.0 INSPECTION
Tanks are fabricated by vendors who have implemented a Quality Assurance program to ISO
9001: 2000. Prior to fabrication, a preliminary inspection is made to check materials and welding
qualifications. Mill test reports of materials are checked at this time. If required, in process
inspections are made during fabrication to monitor Vendor’s quality control and inspection
procedures and to assure satisfactory weld quality. Weld quality acceptance criteria will be
according to ASME Sec VIII. Final inspection is made which includes examining radiographs,
witnessing original hydrostatic and other specified tests.

6.0 SURFACE PREPARATION, PRIMING AND PAINTING

All joints over which interior and/or exterior coating is to be applied are continuously seal welded.
All welds are made smooth, with no holes, high spots, sharp edges or pockets. Undercuts and
recesses are smoothed by grinding and porous welds are ground down to pinhole-free metal.
Weld flux is removed from the surface by washing with water.
Surface preparation shall meet the specified coating manufacturer’s requirements.

7.0 FINISHING AND SHIPPING

After fabrication the tanks are cleared of dirt, debris and loose foreign materials both inside and
out. Tank components (provided by others) to be shipped are installed into the fabricated tanks as
much as possible unless shipping limitation may necessitate removal and packing of some items
to be reassembled at the site by others. Completed equipment is protected during shipment to
prevent damage from handling and all openings are adequately sealed against contamination of
the interior.
