PLANTS AND

ANIMALS
As tropical rainforests are located on or close to the
Equator, the climate is typically warm and wet. The high
rainfall and year-round high temperatures are ideal
conditions for vegetation growth. The wide range of plants
encourages a huge variety of insects, birds and
animals. Temperatures in the tropical rainforest are high
throughout the year. Annual temperatures usually average
around 28°C and show little variation from day to day. The
range is temperature throughout the year is low. The
temperature never drops below 20°C and rarely exceeds
35°C. Rainfall levels are high, typically over 2000mm per
year. This significant amount of rainfall supplies huge rivers
such as the Amazon in Brazil and the Congo in Central
America. Most afternoons experience a heavy downpour,
which helps to keep the rainforest moist. The atmosphere
in the tropical rainforest is hot and humid as the result of
high temperatures and abundance of water.
