An elevator controller (comprising elevator reader and one or more relay modules)
can be used for controlling up to 128 outputs; elevator reader relays. For each
elevator reader relay, a room interval is set up, e.g. the guest rooms on a
certain floor.
The elevator reader can in the online case be connected to an RS485 gateway V2
(including 8 outputs) and up to 15 relay modules (each with 8 outputs).
In the offline case the elevator reader can be connected to up to 16 relay modules;
each with 8 outputs.
Note: For more information about RS485 gateway V2, see User manual RS485
gateway V2.
In certain situations yellow LED signals are given, e.g. if one or more user groups
are blocked from the elevator reader. For detailed information about different LED
signals, see the appendix about LEDs and sound signals in User Manual Visionline.
2.1 Parts
Pos Description
For mounting on a standard 35 mm (1 7/16'') DIN rail, two Weidmüller clips RF 180
are required (see Figure 7 below; the clips are enclosed with the mounting rack).
Note: The DIN rail is not supplied from ASSA ABLOY Hospitality.
The relay module is 75 mm (3'') high with mounting rack and DIN rail,
and 52 mm (2 1/16'') with mounting rack only.
12 RS485: A
Table 2
*) Jumper JP1 should always be mounted since the elevator reader is in online
configurations always located on one end of the RS485 line; see details in Figure 17
and Figure 20.
The RFID module (reader unit) should be connected to the I2C/RS485 converter & relay
according to Figure 13 below.
3.3 Configurations
Three different configurations are described in the following sections:
If the RS485 gateway V2 is powered by PoE, do NOT power the elevator controller by the voltage
supplied from the RS485 gateway V2.
The cable 2x2, which is used between the elevator reader and the RS485 gateway V2, shall be of TP
(twisted pair) type with a conductor area of minimum 0.25mm2 /AWG 24 and shielded if the length
exceeds 20 m/yds, LiYCY/UL 2919. In case of shield, one end shall be connected to protective ground.
All cables in the configuration are TP cables specified as above, except for the cable between
RS485 gateway V2 and LAN which is of CAT5 type or higher.
A green LED on the interface board of the elevator reader indicates when the power is on.
Figure 14: Configuration overview when the RS485 gateway V2 is connected to PoE and the elevator
reader is connected to an external power supply; max one elevator reader per RS485 gateway V2.
For detailed information about connector on the elevator reader etc, see the first sections of chapter 3.
For details about current consumption, required power, maximum load etc, see Appendix A.
If the configuration should contain maximum 8 relay outputs, no relay modules are needed.
In this case, the 8 relay outputs of the RS485 gateway V2 can be used.
Make sure that you have the latest version of the elevator reader firmware. To read out firmware
version and upload new firmware, use the service PC and Lock Service 3G; see Quick reference guide
Lock Service 3G for detailed information.
The maximum load is NOT the same for a relay output on the RS485 gateway V2 as for a relay output
on a relay module; see Appendix A.
If relay module(s) are applicable in the configuration, perform these steps before connecting
according to Figure 18.
Figure 16: Configuration overview when elevator reader, RS485 gateway V2 and (optional) up to 15 relay
modules are connected to an external power supply; maximum one elevator reader per RS485 gateway
V2. For detailed information about connector on the elevator reader etc, see the first sections of chapter
3. For details about current consumption, required power, maximum load etc, see Appendix A.
Figure 17: Example of RS485 line. In this example, the terminating resistor should be cut on all
three relay modules. The terminating resistor of the elevator reader should be left untouched since
this unit is in one end point of the RS485 line.
Important: Use the same external power supply for the RS485 gateway V2, elevator reader and
(if applicable) the relay module(s), i.e. connect as described in Figure 18. This is to make sure that
the ground is common for the RS485 gateway V2, the elevator reader and the relay module(s).
Figure 18: Detailed connection when elevator reader, RS485 gateway V2 and (optional) up to 15 relay modules
are connected to an external power supply; maximum one elevator reader per RS485 gateway V2. See section
3.1 for details about terminals 3-10 on the interface board.
Make sure that you have the latest version of the elevator reader firmware. To read out firmware
version and upload new firmware, use the service PC and Lock Service 3G; see Quick Reference Guide
Lock Service 3G for detailed information.
A green LED on the interface board of the elevator reader indicates when the power is on.
Figure 19: Configuration overview when elevator reader and up to 16 relay modules are connected to
external power supply; maximum one elevator reader per configuration. This configuration is offline.
For detailed information about connector on the elevator reader etc, see the first sections of chapter 3.
For details about current consumption, required power, maximum load etc, see Appendix A.
See Figure 21 for a detailed connection picture, but before connecting according to Figure 21,
perform the following steps:
1. The address selector on each relay module must have a unique address.
2. Relay modules and elevator readers are at delivery equipped with a terminating resistor to
stabilize the communication signals. The terminating resistor should however be removed
from all units which are installed between the two end points of the RS485 line; see example
in Figure 20. To remove the terminating resistor from a relay module, cut it; see in Figure 9
where on the relay module it is located. Note: The elevator reader must be located at one
end of the RS485 communication cables.
Figure 20: Example of RS485 line. In this example, the terminating resistor should be cut on relay
module 1 and relay module 2. The terminating resistor of the elevator reader and of relay module 3
should be left untouched since these units are at the end points of the RS485 line.

10. The Open time for the elevator reader is by default 4 seconds but can be
changed; the open time can be 1-30 s.
11. Click New or Save (or Update, if an existing elevator reader was modified).
The Options, Advanced, Indication and Online alternatives in the left part of
the Door Details dialog are not applicable for elevator readers.
Note: For all operations described in section 4.2, make sure that the elevator reader
and Lock Service 3G/Visionline both have the same status, e.g. either both demo with
a system ID card (see Setup manual Visionline) or with Lock Service 3G; see Quick
reference guide Lock Service 3G.
The elevator reader is initiated with a service PC with the software Lock Service 3G,
or with an initiation card. The initiation can be performed either before or after the
system-ID is set. When an elevator reader is initiated, parameters such as the below
are transferred:
calendar
date and time (if that is chosen)
elevator reader number
opening time
opening mode
cancel list
Also parameters for the elevator reader relays that have been set
up for the elevator reader are transferred:
number
opening time
room interval
common room(s)
Note: If the elevator reader should be used in an online configuration (i.e. any of
the configurations with RS485 gateway V2; see sections 3.3.1-3.3.2 for detailed
information), the elevator reader should before initiation be set in online mode
with an RS485 configuration card issued in the Visionline software. For more
information on how to issue the card, see Setup Manual Visionline.
Figure 26
1. Double click on Initiation under the Cards tab in the navigation window.
2. Select a card holder by clicking the
button;
double click on a name or mark the name and click Select.
3. Choose the expiration time of the card (the default value is one day):
enter the number of days for which the card shall be valid, or mark the
button
next to the Expiration time field and mark a date in the calendar (or enter
a date manually). The chosen date will appear at Expiration time; the number
of days will change accordingly.
4. Mark the elevator reader that you want to initiate; it will appear in the text field
Initialize door.
5. Choose one of the three date/time options and fill in the fields accordingly.
6. Click Make Card; present a card at the encoder.
An initiation will be stored as at least two events in the event list to prevent
tampering with the time in the elevator reader; one event before the initiation
and one event after, and possibly some other events if the initiation causes the
door unit status to change.
Note: The initiation card can only be used once, to avoid that two elevator readers
are given the same identity.
4.3.1 Read-out
The read-out can be performed either with Lock Service 3G or with a read-out card.
If using Lock Service 3G, it is possible to read out 2000 events.
To make a read-out:
1. Present the card at the elevator reader to make a read-out; there is a yellow
continuous LED signal while the information is being transferred to the card.
Wait for a short green LED flash before retracting the card, or the operation
will not be successful.
Note: One Read-out card can be used in several elevator readers. When the
card is full, three short red LED flashes will alert the user.
1. Click on the icon Read Events from Card (or, if applicable, Read Parameters
from Card) and present the card at the encoder.
2. Click Read card to see the fetched events (or parameters). The events/
parameters can only be fetched from the card once, then they are erased
from the card; they can however be read out from the door unit again.
Electrical specification:
The maximum current consumption for the elevator reader is 150 mA.
The maximum current consumption for each relay module is 100 mA.
The maximum current consumption for the RS485 gateway V2 is 200 mA.
The elevator reader can in the online case be connected to an RS485 gateway V2
(including 8 outputs) and up to 15 relay modules (each with 8 outputs). In the
offline case the elevator reader can be connected to up to 16 relay modules;
each with 8 outputs. This gives a maximum of 128 outputs both in the online
case and the offline case.
If the distance between the reader and the RS485 gateway V2 or first relay
module is more than 20 m/yds, the cable should be shielded. The shield should
be connected to protective ground at one end.
The maximum length for each cable is 30 m/yds. See sections 3.3.1-3.3.2 for
details about the different configurations.
Important: The maximum load is NOT the same for a relay output on the
RS485 gateway V2 as for a relay output on a relay module; see below.
Maximum load for each relay output on the RS485 gateway V2:
48 VDC / 400 mA
Relay module:
It is recommended that the relay module is purchased together with a mounting
rack for fastening with or without DIN rail.
The rack is delivered with Weidmüller gables AP 80 D (2 pcs) and enclosed are also
Weidmüller clips RF 180 (2 pcs). The clips are used for fastening on the DIN rail.
Firmware upgrade:
See Quick reference guide Lock Service 3G for details.
