1. Introduction
The remote controller gives remote control to different devices such as electronic strikes or
motor locks on common doors, e.g. vehicle barriers, health clubs, conference suites, staff
entrances and hotel garages. The term remote controller in this instruction refers either to
the remote controller in a stand-alone configuration, or to the remote controller with RS-485
gateway. Depending on configuration, the external devices to be controlled are connected to
the card reader or to the RS-485 gateway.
Furthermore, the term remote controller in this instruction is a general name which
refers to slim remote controller RFID, thick remote controller RFID and remote controller
mag/smart. If nothing else is stated, the information in this instruction is general for all
three remote controller types.
In certain situations yellow LED signals are given, e.g. if one or more user groups
are blocked from the remote controller. There are also sound signals; for detailed
information about different LED signals and sound signals, see Appendix D: Door
Unit LEDs and Sounds and what they mean in User Manual Visionline.
The remote controller must be mounted on a flat surface, either indoors or outdoors. If the
unit is located outdoors it should be mounted on a vertical surface under a covering roof.
If mounting under a roof is not possible, a rain cover must be used to protect the unit from
intense rain. Avoid mounting the unit where it might be exposed to prolonged direct sunlight.

3. Electrical specification
An external power supply of 24VDC regulated voltage is needed.
To decide the required capacity of power supply/UPS, add the power consumption of:
- remote controller
- RS-485 gateway; if applicable
- all external connected equipment, e.g. electric door strike or motor lock; if applicable
- heating element; if applicable (see below)
The maximum current consumption for the RS-485 gateway is 200 mA continuously.
The remote controller can in the online case be connected to an RS-485 gateway.
Note: The RS-485 gateway has got 8 relay outputs which are not in use.
The electrical standard for the serial interface connecting the different modules is RS-485.
If the distance between the reader and the RS-485 gateway is more than 20 m/
21,8 yds, the cable should be shielded. The shield should be connected to protective
ground at one end.
Important: The maximum load is NOT the same for a relay output on the
RS-485 gateway as for a relay output on the interface board connector; see below.
Maximum load for the relay output on the interface board connector:
0,5A @125VAC or 2A @30VDC resistive
18 4821995-4
3.1 Interface board connector on remote controller
On the remote controller, there is an interface board with the following connections:
1 Power Input +
2 Power Input - Internally connected to GND

For slim remote controller RFID, no backup battery is enclosed since there is no space
to mount a backup battery inside this variant. If a backup battery needs to be used on
a slim remote controller RFID, use 3 AAA batteries in a battery cassette and mount it
in an applicable way on the mounting plate of the slim remote controller.
3.3 UPS
If the system should operate also when the main power fails, the external power supply
must be connected to an UPS; uninterruptible power supply. There is no separate connection
of power to the heating element. If a heating element is installed, the power capacity for
external power supply/UPS must meet this additional power requirement. To decide the
required capacity of power supply/UPS, the power consumption of all external connected
equipment such as electronic strike and motor locks must also be added.

2. Select a card holder by clicking the
button;
double click on a name or mark the name and click Select.
3. Choose the expiration time of the card (the default value is one day):
enter the number of days for which the card shall be valid, or mark the
button
next to the Expiration time field and mark a date in the calendar (or enter a
date manually). The chosen date will appear at Expiration time; the number
of days will change accordingly.
4. Mark the remote controller that you want to initiate; it will appear in the
text field Initialize door.
5. Choose one of the three date/time options and fill in the fields accordingly.
6. Click Make Card; insert a card in the encoder.
31 4821995-4
Initiating the remote controller with the initiation card:
1. Insert the card into the remote controller at the exact time and date that were chosen
when the initiation card was issued (if time and date are to be set), since that specific
time will be set in the remote controller. There is a ticking sound while the information
is being transferred to the remote controller.
2. Wait for the signal before pulling the card, or the operation will not be successful.
Note: An initiation will be stored as at least two events in the event list to prevent tampering
with the time in the remote controller; one event before the initiation and one event after,
and possibly some other events if the initiation causes the remote controller status to change.
Note: The initiation card can only be used once, to avoid that two remote controllers are given
the same identity.
4.3.1 Read-out
It is possible to read out the access list from a remote controller – it is however not possible
to see which of the outputs that were opened. The remote controller can in configurations
where the RS-485 gateway relays are not used store 2000 events. For configurations where
the RS-485 gateway relays are used, the remote controller can store 100 events.
Making a read-out:
Insert the card in the remote controller to make a read-out; there is a ticking sound while the
information is being transferred to the card. Wait for the signal before pulling the card or the
operation will not be successful. One Read-out card can be used in several remote controllers.
When the card is full, a signal will alert the user.

If the distance between the reader and the RS-485 gateway is more than 20 m/21,8 yds,
the cable should be shielded. The shield should be connected to protective ground at one end.
If the heating element is not used: ASSA ABLOY Hospitality recommends a maximum
cable length of 500 m/546,8 yds for the TP cable between remote controller and
RS-485 gateway. If the cable length exceeds 100 m/109,3 yds, ASSA ABLOY Hospitality
recommends a power supply of 24VDC. See sections 3.6.1-3.6.3 for details about the
different configurations.
If the heating element is used: ASSA ABLOY Hospitality recommends a maximum
cable length of 20 m/21,8 yds or 10 m/10,9 yds for the TP cable between remote controller
and RS-485 gateway, depending on whether full power or half power is used for the
heating element according to Table 1. See sections 3.6.1-3.6.3 for details about the
different configurations.
Important: The maximum load is NOT the same for a relay output on the RS-485
gateway as for a relay output on the interface board connector; see below.
Maximum load for each relay output on the RS-485 gateway:
30V AC/DC / 600mA peak
Maximum load for the relay output on the interface board connector:
0,5A @125VAC or 2A @30VDC resistive
