Structure of the simple present.

Affirmative
La fórmula básica para este tipo de oración sería: SUJETO + VERBO + COMPLEMENTO.
Existe una regla que solo aplica para las oraciones en presente simple afirmativo. Al utilizar
los pronombres personales he, she, it, sustantivos y nombres propios en singular, el verbo
sufre modificaciones de acuerdo a lo siguiente.
 Si el verbo termina en X, SH, CH, O, SS y Z, se le debe agregar al final “es”.
Ejemplo:
- Fix= fixes
- Wish= wishes
- Watch= watches
- Miss= misses
- Go= goes
 Si el verbo termina en una combinación diferente a la anterior, se la agrega “s” al
final.
Ejemplo
- Work= Works
- Eat= eats
- Call= calls
- Sleep= sleeps
 Si el verbo termina en “y” pero antes tiene una vocal, se le agrega “s” al final.
Ejemplo:
- Play= plays
- Pay= pays

 Si el verbo termina en “y” pero antes tiene una consonante, se elimina la “y” y se le
agrega “ies”.
Ejemplos:
- Fly= flies
- Study= studies.
Algunos ejemplos de oraciones
- I go to class twice a week.
- She reads the newspaper every day.
- Mr. Green works with my uncle.
Negativo
En este caso, para escribir oraciones en negativo, se debe utilizar el auxiliar “do” cuando
utilizamos los pronombres “I, You, We, They” y el auxiliar “does” cuando utilizamos los
pronombres “he, she, it”, sustantivos y nombres propios en singular.

Entonces, la fórmula básica sería:

Sujeto + Auxiliar “do” o “does” + NOT + Verbo + Complemento

También puedes utilizar la contracción del auxiliar con la negación, la cual quedaría como
“don’t” y “doesn’t”

Por ejemplo
 He does not live in Boston → He doesn’t live in Boston
 We do not go to the movies every weekend → We don’t go to the movies every weekend

Preguntas
Para realizar preguntas en presente simple, la fórmula básica varía un poco y queda de la
siguiente manera: Auxiliar “do” o “does” + sujeto + verbo + complemento + ?

Por ejemplo
 Do you study English every day?
 Does she watch TV at 9 pm?
Texto en presente simple
The city is called Guatemala and it is approximately two or three hours from Patzun,
Guatemala is the largest and most beautiful city. But there are many people without work
and many people work as truck driver, farmer, also many are from economic crisis, so many
people travel a lot outside the city to look for work in Canada or the United States, to give
the best to their family and get out of poverty. If people go to the United States they go for 5
or 12 years but sometimes they do not return, but they take their relatives for now, and when
they leave in Canada it is different there they only go for about eight months or two years
then they return to home for a few days or months to rest.
Guatemala has many agricultural people, so generally their trucks are always full of beef,
pork, corn, or vegetables. As one of the examples that I am going to give of acquaintances
who traveled to the United States, a family first left one of their children the lady and left his
wife, and after two years his uncle left, and he left his three children and his wife, in
Guatemala. The boy who left first He loves his wife and his sisters so much that after a few
years and feels bad for not spending more time with them, so this year a brother and his
wife came for his two sisters. And it is very joyful to see Guatemalans in the United States,
and sometimes they do live making chuchitos for dinner. The girl told me because we are
close friends so she tells me that most of the time she has breakfast in one state, lunch in
another and dinner in another.
Today, he is heading to New York. Drive a refrigerator truck full of meat to a Manhattan
supermarket.
He likes his job, but sometimes it is a bit boring but at the same time very happy because
they are together as a family. When he arrives in New York and, after unloading the truck,
he goes to sleep at the house with his brothers. The next day, reload the truck with
something else and drive back to Nebraska. He hopes to see his family again. And this is
how they spend their lives in the United States, although the work is a bit hard but there are
more opportunities to overcome and get out of poverty.
And this is how many people leave for now, to improve themselves, but there are people
who do not value the effort and waste money here in Guatemala thinking that making money
there is easy, but the opposite, it is very difficult, because they say that to Sometimes they
don't eat, if not only twice a day but more or less they eat, because they have to eat on the
run.
I think that it is better for the whole family to go live for now so that they realize the sacrifice
that one makes to earn money and send here in Guatemala.

Also if here in Guatemala there are job opportunities and with a good salary, everything
would be better and there was not much poverty and children have more opportunities to
study to be someone in life and improve themselves?

I have relatives there, I have two uncles, and the truth is that it hurts me because they went
there to improve themselves, and it hurts that it was not like that, one of them left to get out
of all his debts, but he is assuming the opposite, Because the first thing I isolate is to build
a house and your debt has not been repaid.
My other uncle went there for the same thing and it is the woman who is not taking care of
the money.
Family vacation

We had finally landed on the beach. My dream vacation had finally arrived. When I saw the
beds, I told my sister that the one by the window would be mine. If he wanted to, the other
could be his, or he could ask to have another bedroom fixed for him.

Later, we were having coconut milk by the pool when two guys came up next to us and one
of them took the glasses and started drinking from them. I said, "Excuse me, I think you
made a mistake. These drinks are ours." They apologized for the confusion and bought us
new drinks.

Our parents didn't trust them, so they approached us with the excuse that the things in the
chair on the left were theirs, so they had to take care of them.

The next day we saw the same guy and this time a coupon for the equivalent of two free
nights appeared under our glasses. I asked them, "Excuse me, is this yours?" And they said
it wasn't, it was ours.

It turned out that they were the owner's children. Since they had made a terrible mistake in
having our drinks, their father told the oldest of them that the responsibility to fix it was his.
After discussing the issue with his brother, they decided to offer the four of us two free nights!

Poem about her favorite people

I am blessed with the greatest blessing one can have; to love someone with all my heart
who also loves me. Because of the gift of love, you mean everything to me, and you are my
favorite person in the world.

You make my world all that it is, a much better place than it would be without you. I can’t
imagine what it would be like if we weren’t together. Our love defines my life, and is what I
am most thankful for. Yes, I have lots of favorite things, favorite memories, and favorite
people, but when it comes to the one who means most to me, I hope it is no surprise to you
that you are my favorite person in the world.

You are the one I want to spend my every moment with: my every dream, every wonder,
and every goal. You are the reason that I care about trying to do anything, the one I want to
please besides myself; you are the one who knows every corner of my soul. You are the
one I love enough to give my life for, the one I want to breathe my last breath with.

If there’s one thing, it is this: you mean everything to me. I love you and you are my favorite
person in the world.
Conversation about my weekend plans.

Dad, I want to talk to you about my plans for the weekend.

- Yes daughter tell me what are your plans for this weekend and also if you can tell me about
your vacation plan.

- I can I want to go for a walk with you on the beach, because since I have vacations since
Monday, then on the weekend we go for a walk and return until Monday. What do you think
dad

- I think it is a great idea daughter, we go for a walk from Saturday and we return until
Monday.

- Okay, dad, let's go then. My plan for that little trip is that we are going to rest very well, so
I don't want us to go to cook or clean the house that we are going to live in, so what I think
is that we are going to pay someone to do all that day.

- Of course if daughter we are going to pay a girl to do everything.

Story of my vacation

The first year in school (first grade) we went for a walk in the ruins of Antigua Guatemala
with all the students from the school. I had never gone on a field trip or to school when I was
in elementary school.

For me it was very special and important, also very unlucky because when we returned it
started to rain that we came back well soaked from being in the rain for half an hour or more,
but although wet we had a great time with my colleagues from the section.

As it was the first time that I went for a walk alone without my family, I missed them a lot, I
was not used to traveling alone.

I met many people even though they are from school but since we were in different sections
so I did not speak to them much, even in the truck I started talking to them more. By the time
we arrived we went to eat ice cream in the park in Antigua and it was very delicious although
it was a bit expensive.

Later, the teachers called us to give us instructions on what to do and what not to do on the
route, and they formed groups and in each group they chose a person in charge to bring
order in the group, and they chose me as captain of the group, later we went to the museum
of Antigua. It was the first time I went there, it looked beautiful.

When I finished the tour of the museum we went to buy some hamburgers that were very
good but they took too long to make them for so many people that there were also a bit
expensive for what they were.

Before returning we had to pass assistance in the van to verify whether we were full or
someone was missing, so I passed the assistance even though we were very wet, and we
were full, we came and already at school my parents were already waiting for me with some
dry clothes, I changed and we came to my house.

Paragraph of my vacation

On my vacation, I went to my grandparents' house, in the village with my parents and my

sisters. I talked to my cousins. It was fun.

When I came back, I went to the movies with some of my friends, it was great!

Then we went shopping.

We had an excellent day.

On hot days, we went to the beach with my family. We swim and play in the sand.

The rest of the week I played on the computer, and watched TV. I enjoyed too much my
vacations. I want to repeat this on my next vacation
Conversation about the vacations

Rob: How was your vacation, Tom?

Tom: It was great! I went to San Juan la Laguna with my girlfriend.

Rob: Oh well. Was it your first time in that place?

Tom: No, I had been there once with my family. But that was years ago.

Rob: So what did you think?

Tom: I loved it! The beaches were beautiful. We ate a lot of fried fish, drank beer and had a
great time.

Rob: Did you see the city or just the beach?

Tom: Well yeah my girlfriend dragged me everywhere and I don't like culture as much as
she does. But it was nice I guess.

Rob: You look a bit sunburned, actually.

Tom: Not sunburned, really. I turn red. It does not hurt. And you? What have you been doing
this summer?

Rob: Not much, really. I've been working here.

Tom: No vacation yet?

Rob: No. I managed to get away for a couple of long weekends. But there are no suitable
vacations yet. By the way, how is your English?

Tom: Well you remember I took that course last year. Well, I got to the classes and it turns
out that I don't understand anything. All he remembered was how to say Beer, Please, and
where’s the bathroom?

Rob: The same thing happened to me. I dated that girl who speaks only English a few years
ago, remember?

Tom: Oh yeah… Giovanna. She was beautiful!

Rob: Actually it was. But when he took me to meet the parents, they spoke this dialect that
didn't sound like English at all! I spent two weeks trying to understand them.

Tom: Yes… well, fortunately in the course there are many people who speak English. By
the way, how is Karen?

Rob: He's doing quite well. We are still looking for a place to live.

Tom: Oh yeah. Move in together. Big step!

Rob: Yeah well ... it had to happen someday. It is time to settle down.

Tom: Yes. Time to settle down.

Rob: Anyway, it's good to have you back ... Do you want to go to lunch later?

Tom: Sure. I'll stop by your desk.
