Greenhouse gasses are a big problem that we are facing right now. If not controlled it can lead
to various disasters on a global scale that could negatively impact us and more importantly
nature permanently. To combat this we need to take drastic measures fast and I have come up
with a list of steps to do just that. The purpose of this memo is to inform and persuade the Air
and Radiation Division of the EPA to take action in regulating greenhouse gasses from many
different sizable sources.

Summary
Global warming has been negatively affecting earth 's environment at an alarming rate and it is
only bound to get worse if we do not reduce our production of greenhouse gasses. Currently
Glaciers are melting and according to various studies done by Nasa, glaciers around the world
could completely melt in the next 25-30 years at the current rate of global warming. This can
cause many disasters around the world regarding nature, and the economy. Currently there are
various sources such as Industrial factories, cargo ships, planes, and oil fracking that are
producing greenhouse gasses at an alarming rate. These sources are being poorly regulated or
not regulated at all and the only way to substantially reduce the impact these gasses have on
earth is to look towards renewable power sources and start research into the conversion of
current factories and transportation such as Planes and Cargo ships into hybrids or converting
them to fully run on renewable power sources. The less we rely on oil the better it will be for our
environment.

Global warming’s impact on Earth

Global warming is rising at an all time high, because of our substantial use of oil. Oil is used as
fuel for many different factories some of which produce transportation that also run on oil such
as cars, ships, and planes. This is having a substantial negative impact on the environment.
More specifically Global warming is slowly melting our glaciers and based on research done by
Nasa 90-95% of our glaciers will melt In the next 25-30 years. If this were to happen our sea
level would rise approximately 70 meters or 230 feet. One can see that this will not be good for
many coastal cites as many of them will likely go completely go under water. Additionally
Glaciers currently hold 69% of earth’s fresh water and we could lose all of it in the next 25-30
years. Additionally the population of many different species of fish and animals such Polar bears
will greatly decrease due to the rising global temperature.
The problem: Failure of regulating Greenhouse gasses in the Industrial
area

To tackle a problem we first need to analyze the problem from all sides, come up with a solution
and then decide when, where, and how to execute our solution in the most effective way
possible, then only can we be successful in solving the problem. The problem we are facing
right now is our flawed execution on lowering greenhouse. Let’s take for example the studies
found by Harvard's Association of Environmental Studies and Sciences. According to them, the
production of EV vehicles pollutes twice as much as the production of Internal combustion
engines (Ice cars). One can see that there needs to be substantial improvements in the
Industrial factories themselves and according to my research there is not much effort being
made to improve that aspect of the production of greenhouse gasses.

Tackling the problem the right way

As one can see the efforts being made currently to fight global warming is very small and not
only that but we are not fighting the problem the right way. As previously mentioned,
transportation specifically electric cars are all the rage right now but they alone cannot improve
our environment if the industrial production behind them does not improve. Additionally we need
regulate the pollution caused by Industrial transportation specifically cargo ships. To jump start
this process we must immediately speed up the research of electrifying and solar powering our
cargo ships as because of these big ships there still stands a great demand of oil which then
spirals down to our next issue being the production of oil itself. The mining of oil, specifically oil
fracking is a big issue especially when it’s happening illegally, companies are oil fracking and
ruining the water and general air quality for rural villages who have no power in what big
corporations do to their land. Additionally they don’t give any second thought to the pollution
they are causing since there is little to no regulation in third world countries. Studies estimate
that in rural areas greenhouse gasses caused by fracking are produced up to 3 times as much
as compared to fracking being regulated in places like Dubai or America.. Next are Industrial
factories. Industrial factories are the biggest contribution to Global warming and general
pollution. To reduce Greenhouse gasses produced by industrial factories we need to refurbish
existing factories and create future factories that can make use of clean energy such as solar
and wind energy. From my viewpoint and research there is not enough effort being put into the
development of these actions described above and things will only get worse until we take these
actions. By starting the implementation of these steps immediately there would be a substantial
improvement in earths environment in the many coming years.
Conclusion

In conclusion, we have talked about the various areas that need heavy improvement in the effort
of reducing our Greenhouse gasses. We went over the steps that are needed, how we can
begin to implement them, and what we can expect going forward. By taking all these steps and
regulating the Industrial area with the same amount of enthusiasm the world governments have
about one day having every car on the road be electric we can progress ourselves to a much
cleaner earth.

Recommendations

I will go over a very concentrated list on what exactly needs to be done to substantially reduce
our Greenhouse gasses.

1. Industrial factories are the biggest contributor to Greenhouse gasses. We need to begin
research and development of converting current factories to use clear energy sources such as
solar, and wind energy and create new factories with these clean energies in mind.

2. Research and development needs to begin in converting current cargo ships to use clean
energy such as solar and battery energy. Additionally Research for electric planes should
begin.

3. Oil production needs better regulating as there are many places in the world where big
companies are oil fracking and ruining the water and general air quality for rural villages who
have no power in what big corporations do to their land. Additionally they don’t give any second
thought to the pollution they are causing since there is little to no regulation in 3rd world
countries.

By taking these steps we would have a less reliance on oil, and the production of it can begin to
decrease.
