I. Answer the following questions in 3 to 5 sentences:

In what ways is public speaking likely to make a difference in your life?

Public speaking is a great opportunity to test my potentials. In doing so, it could help me boost
my Confidence and Competence – if done well. It could also inspire, encourage, enlighten, and educate
everyone listening to my speech. Therefore, I will have a broader connection with the society.

How is public speaking similar to everyday conversation?

First, the speaker relays the message to their receivers. The speaker can always express his
thoughts and his opinions to his audience. On the other hand, he can also listen or observe the audiences’
responses and reactions. Both public speaking and casual conversation falls under communication.

How is public speaking different from everyday conversation?

It could be determined by the manner of speaking. In public speaking, the speaker must observe
formal speech to convey his or her message with more diction and motivation. While on everyday
conversation, both the speakers and listeners use casual or informal language.

How can you control your nervousness and make it work for you in your speeches?

I should rehearse before the actual speech. I will imagine myself like I am already standing on the
stage, in front of the masses, and anticipate what would be the atmosphere of my speech. When on the
actual one, I will take a deep breath before starting it. If needed, that my nervousness still occurring, I will
admit it to the audience, to soothe the stress and proceed to my speech more smoothly.
What are the elements/components of the speech communication or communication process? How
do they interact to determine the success or failure of a speech?

They are known as the: Speaker, Message, Medium, Receiver, and Feedback. The
communication is successful, If the relayed message from the Sender/Speaker will be received by the
receiver and there will be a feedback or response from him or her that will be sent to the Sender, vice
versa. Otherwise, it is considered a failure, when the message has not delivered or to the receiver or
there’s no feedback from him or her.

II.

Think back on an important conversation you had recently in which you wanted to achieve a
particular result. (Examples: Asking your employer to change your work schedule; explaining to a
friend how to change the oil and filter in a car; attempting to talk your spouse or partner into
buying the computer you like rather than the one he or she prefers). Write a brief analysis of the
conversation.

In your analysis, explain the following:

(1) your purpose in the conversation and the message strategy you chose to achieve your purpose;
(2) the communication channels used during the conversation and how they affected the outcome;
(3) the interference – internal or external – you encountered during the conversation; (4) the steps
you took to adjust to feedback; (5) the strategic changes you would make in preparing for and
carrying out the conversation if you had it to do over again.

A close friend of mine asked me favor, to help him on formatting his assignment and send it back
to him when it is arranged well. I questioned him how I will format his work, which is to be passed. We
talked through the Messenger, a social media application by Facebook, I was confused at first, but it went
well later. There is a minor interference, the misinterpretation of each messages, which affects our
conversation a bit. I asked him again what the format of his work should be, then he had explained it to
me clearer, and finally I understood. On the next instances, I will be more careful and ask more precisely,
then to expect a more detailed explanation from whomever I will talk to. It is to avoid further difficulties
in my our conversations.
