Top 20 DV gainers with price increase Top 20 DV gainers with price decrease
1. What is ‘Delivery Volume’ and what is the difference between ‘Total Volume’ and ‘Delivery Volume’?
‘Delivery volume’ is the number of stocks that buyers have bought expecting a price increase in the short - long term.
Short term in this case can be as low as 3 days, as the stocks purchased today will be credited to the trading account at the end of T+2 days and will be available
for transaction from day T+3.
If stocks are sold on or before T+2 days, the transaction might run into the risk of needing an auction. Auctioning of stock can attract other charges and fines for
the trader.
Hence, we can assume that delivered stocks are bought to be hold for at-least 2 days.
Total volume is the sum of ‘Delivery Volume’ and volume traded intraday (Buy Today Sell Today).
In the market, if someone is buying a stock, it also means that someone else is selling that stock.
It is important to see whether the spike in delivery volume is leading to a price increase or decrease.
Price increase means that there is increased buying interest and vice-versa (price decrease means heavy selling).
3. Does a spike in delivery volume accompanied with price increase guarantee further price increase?
No. Just for the reason that some of the existing holders of the stock might have been waiting for this price increase to exit. Moreover, price of stocks depends
on various factors, both internal and external. In today’s world where path breaking technology developments are happening at a breakneck speed, analysis and
companies can become obsolete overnight.
One more interesting thing to be considered is, a human (or bunch of humans - sub optimal intelligence) is behind the spike in delivery volumes and humans
have been proven wrong many a times.
Hence, it is highly recommended that an individual conducts his/her own analysis / due diligence before making a decision on a trade.
4. What price is to be considered to calculate change? Previous close or day opening?
It is said that all known information is factored in while determining the price of a stock. Hence, change between open price and previous close provides
information on developments overnight. Change between open price and day close provides information on developments during the trading session.
It is also to be noted that close price is a weighted average of all trades that happened in the last 30 mins of trading session.
Change between day close and previous close can thus be assumed to provide information on consolidated developments during previous trading session and
current trading session.
In all historical analysis, changes between close price is considered and hence % change provided in reports of Indian Stocks Action means change in close
prices i.e. current session to previous session.
