These days, the number of crimes increase at an alarming rate.

Some people
believe that wrong-doings should be fined by fixed punishments. Others, however,
think that the circumstances and the motivation for committing a crime should be
looked upon in a subjective manner, while accusing someone of the crime. I
personally argue that these ideas are definitely true and through this essay I will
support these views with some considerations.
Firstly, the advantage of using standardized punishment for a certain crime
would increase understanding of citizens about crimes. Therefore, people will
consider before committing a crime and thus, that could lead to decrease the crime
rate and re-committing crime. Besides that, fixed punishments also contributes to
form a strong system of law enforcement. However, the use of fixed punishment
also had a part inadequate as a lot of crimes in which the criminal is not really
guilty.
On the other hand, the nature and severity of these unlawful activities should
always be taken into account when deciding on the punishment. Some people
unintentional commit a crime when they self – defense versus serial killer or a
robbery for feeding their family. Such cases should be looked upon. Though, some
people will get away with their criminal actions since they can flaw in the law
court. As a result, they can commit a crime again.
In conclusion, my opinion is that the punishment for a crime should be based
on all the factors leading up to the illegal action rather than providing judgment
based on the types of crimes.
