1. In the beginning, when God created the universe,

the earth was formless and desolate. The raging ocean that covered everything was engulfed in total
darkness, and the Spirit of God was moving over the water.

Then God commanded, "Let there be light"—and light appeared.

God was pleased with what he saw. Then he separated the light from the darkness,

and he named the light "Day" and the darkness "Night." Evening passed and morning came—that was the
first day.

Resp: Genesis 1, Criação dos céus e da terra e de tudo que neles há

2. God spoke, and these were his words:

"I am the LORD your God who brought you out of Egypt, where you were slaves.

"Worship no god but me.

"Do not make for yourselves images of anything in heaven or on earth or in the water under the earth.

Do not bow down to any idol or worship it, because I am the LORD your God and I tolerate no rivals. I bring
punishment on those who hate me and on their descendants down to the third and fourth generation.

But I show my love to thousands of generations of those who love me and obey my laws.

"Do not use my name for evil purposes, for I, the LORD your God, will punish anyone who misuses my
name.

"Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy.

You have six days in which to do your work,

but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to me. On that day no one is to work—neither you, your
children, your slaves, your animals, nor the foreigners who live in your country.

In six days I, the LORD, made the earth, the sky, the seas, and everything in them, but on the seventh day I
rested. That is why I, the LORD, blessed the Sabbath and made it holy.

Resp.: Êxodo 20; Os dez mandamentos

3. Then Job answered the LORD.

I know, LORD, that you are all-powerful; that you can do everything you want.

You ask how I dare question your wisdom when I am so very ignorant. I talked about things I did not
understand, about marvels too great for me to know.

You told me to listen while you spoke and to try to answer your questions.

In the past I knew only what others had told me, but now I have seen you with my own eyes.

So I am ashamed of all I have said and repent in dust and ashes.

Resp. Jó 42; A confissão de Jó

4. The LORD is my shepherd; I have everything I need.

He lets me rest in fields of green grass and leads me to quiet pools of fresh water.

He gives me new strength. He guides me in the right paths, as he has promised.

Even if I go through the deepest darkness, I will not be afraid, LORD, for you are with me. Your shepherd's
rod and staff protect me.

You prepare a banquet for me, where all my enemies can see me; you welcome me as an honored guest
and fill my cup to the brim.

I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life; and your house will be my home as long as I
live.

Resp. Salmo 23; O Senhor é o meu pastor

5. For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may
not die but have eternal life.

For God did not send his Son into the world to be its judge, but to be its savior.

Those who believe in the Son are not judged; but those who do not believe have already been judged,
because they have not believed in God's only Son.

This is how the judgment works: the light has come into the world, but people love the darkness rather
than the light, because their deeds are evil.

Those who do evil things hate the light and will not come to the light, because they do not want their evil
deeds to be shown up.

But those who do what is true come to the light in order that the light may show that what they did was in
obedience to God.
