Century: Spice Road – by Emerson Matsuuchi

Solo variant – by Igor Larchenko (Pard), with text corrections by Ken Halland (hallakj)
Overview
You play against an AI. The AI uses spice cubes drawn from a bag, whereas you take them from the Spice Bowls, as
in the normal game. A limited number of Point Cards are arranged in an inverted pyramid, and the only ones avai l-
able for you or the AI to claim are those that are face-up.
You win if you have more points than the AI when the pyramid is exhausted.
Setup
Shuffle the Point Cards and place 10 random
cards in a pyramid, one card face-up. Re-
move the remainder of the cards from the
game.
Shuffle the Market Cards and turn the top 6
cards face-up in a row under the pyramid.
Place the remainder of the cards in a draw
pile. (See setup example on the right.)
Place the four Spice Bowls containing the spice
cubes to the left of the Point and Market
Cards.
Take 5 cubes of each color and place them in a
bag for the AI.
Take two starting Market Cards (purple bor-
der). These cards are your starting hand.
Take the first player Caravan Card, and put 3
yellow cubes on it.
No coins are used in this solo variant.
Your turn
Play your turns as usual. If you claim a Points
Card, turn over any freed cards under it.
AI's turn
The AI draws spice cubes from his bag, and
stores them in a pile next to his bag (instead of on a Caravan Card) for paying for cards. There is no limit to the
number of cubes in the pile, but he must spend them if he can. To do this, the AI performs the first possible action
from the following three options:
1. Claim a Point Card – The AI takes the most valuable Point Card, if he can buy it using his pile of cubes. He pays
for it, placing the required cubes back in his bag. Turn over any freed cards.
2. Removing a Market Card – The AI removes the left-
most Market Card from the game, if he can buy it. He
pays for it according to its cost requirement (see exam-
ples on right), and places the required cubes back in his
bag. Note: An upgrade card has no cost, so the AI re-
moves it without paying if it is the leftmost card. If
there were cubes on the removed card, he places them
in his bag too. Move the Market Cards to the left and
turn over the next card from the draw pile.
3. Take cubes – The AI takes a random cube from his bag and places it in his cube pile.
End of the game
The games ends when you or the AI claim the last Point Card. Add up your Point Card totals. If you have more points
than the AI, you are the winner!
