I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-

Ife, Nigeria. During my undergraduate, I gained excellent practical, analytical and theoretical
skills which help me in problem-solving and tackling challenges. My commitment to academic
and research excellence manifested in my emergence in the top 3% of my graduating class.

Furthermore, I’m deeply involved in community development activities and presently, a

member of the Environmental Protection & Sanitation Group. This group seeks, among other
objectives, to foster unity through environmental development and contribute to accelerated
growth of the national economy. The rich experiences I’ve gathered through my membership in
this group equipped me for graduate study in many interdisciplinary fields.

The increasing world-wide awareness and concern about the environmental impacts of fossil
fuels coupled with the oil price shocks of the early 1970s and late 1980s, and likely future price
hikes, have lent enormous weight to a switch to renewable energy sources and green
technologies. This is mainly because green technologies support a wide range of business,
environmental and government decisions. However, there is a worldwide lack of qualified
professionals capable of creating and using these technologies for lucrative business
opportunities

In Nigeria, the most populous black nation, huge tons of biodegradable wastes are generated
on a daily basis. However, most of these wastes are indiscriminately disposed of into streams
and left to litter unoccupied land areas. This led to swift movement by the government at state
and national levels to advocate for private entrepreneurs’ involvement in managing waste.

The above stated has made me develop keen interest in green businesses, particularly biogas
production, in order to fill the skill gap. Biogas plant is environmental-friendly, beneficial to a
society and can augment the income of people; these integrated objectives lead to a
sustainable way of development. I therefore decided to build a career in green businesses and
innovation by pursuing a master’s degree in Sustainable Development at the American
University in Cairo (ACU). After my MSc at AUC, I want to take-up a green business through
biogas production. Biogas technology is an integrated waste management system that is a
clean, renewable, naturally produced but under-utilized source of energy.

The choice of AUC is, in fact, not far-fetched. The Sustainable Development master’s degree
plan at AUC is well-structured for me to obtain a broad view of the subject matter while the
programme offers particular suitability that caters for diverse backgrounds and interests of
students. Besides, the MSc programme will be taught by outstanding staff strength and strong
research team from interdisciplinary departments in AUC. The university also prides herself of
several state-of-the-art facilities available for teaching, learning, and research which has made
her the best in Egypt and one of the best ranked university in the world.

Lastly, the opportunity of making important connections within the vast and vibrant
international graduate students’ community staged by AUC has made me want to study in this
world-class university. All these opportunities will create suitable and supportive teaching and
learning environment that will expose me to a well-rounded preparation for a successful future
career. I therefore strongly believe that the skills and knowledge which AUC would have
imparted in me after this master’s programme will put me on a sound footing in becoming one
of the leading entrepreneurs that I crave to be .
