INTRODUCTION
These checklists help you get started with the
SAP® Business One application. Recommendation
See the ReadMe file for late updates.
An important source of information for The ReadMe file is located both on the
customers is the SAP Business One Customer CD and in the download package.
Portal at channel.sap.com/sbocustomer. An
important source of information for partners is
the SAP Business One area of the SAP Channel
Partner Portal at channel.sap.com/sbo. These
portals are free of charge. In order to gain
access, you need an Internet connection, an
S-user identification, and a password. Partners
can have S-user identifications and passwords
generated both for customer users and for
additional partner employees. For information
on S-user maintenance, see the section
“Learning More About SAP Business One.”

The SAP Channel Partner Portal can also be

accessed at service.sap.com/smb/sbo.

BEFORE INSTALLING SAP BUSINESS ONE
1 Find out about the contents of the
SAP Business One software packages.
Your partner has access to the SAP
Business One ReadMe file, which provides
details on the three versions:
• Full product (CD or download)
• Evaluation (CD or download)
• Upgrade (download only)

2 Check the hardware and software
requirements.
Make sure that your system meets the
required hardware and software require-
ments by reading the SAP Business One
Sizing Guide for your release.
This information is relevant for
CUSTOMERS only.
To download the SAP Business One Sizing
Guide from the SAP Business One Customer
Portal, go to channel.sap.com/sbocustomer
and select the Documentation tab. The sizing
guide is release-specific. Click on your
release number.
This information is relevant for
PARTNERS only.
To download the SAP Business One Sizing
Guide from the SAP Channel Partner Portal,
open the Documentation Resource Center
at channel.sap.com/sbo/documentation.

INSTALLING SAP BUSINESS ONE
If you are installing SAP Business One for the
first time, follow these steps.
The following information is relevant for
PARTNERS only.
3 Read the correct Administrator’s Guide
for your database.
The Administrator’s Guide comes with the
product CD.
You can also download the SAP Business
One Administrator’s Guide from the SAP
Channel Partner Portal. To do so, go to
the Documentation Resource Center at
channel.sap.com/sbo/documentation.
This guide is release-specific.
4 Install SAP Business One from the
product CD.
a. If the customer has not already installed
it, install the database.
b. Initialize the database.
c. Install the SAP Business One server.
d. Install the SAP Business One client.

Caution
Do not install the evaluation version of
SAP Business One 2007 on a computer that
is running a production version. This may
result in a loss of data.
If you experience problems when downloading
software, create a message under component
SBO-CRO-SUP. When you create messages,
access is restricted to SBO components.
Note
You can also perform an initial installation
by download from the Software Distribution
Center in SAP Service Marketplace.
a. Go to service.sap.com/sbo-swcenter.
b. To download an entire software package,
choose Installations, under SAP Business
One Products in the navigation panel.

OBTAINING A LICENSE KEY
To use SAP Business One in accordance with
your contract, you are required to implement
a license key assigned by SAP. For new instal-
lations, the system can be used for a period of
31 days without a license key. After that period,
SAP Business One will not run.
For information on SAP Business One license
mechanisms, license comparisons, and license
ordering, see the SAP Business One License
Guide. You can download the license guide
in the same way as the sizing guide (see
step 2 above).
Recommendation
We recommend that you request the license
key immediately after installing the system.
5 Find out your SAP Business One
hardware key.
Do one of the following:
• Start SAP Business One and choose
Help ջ About. The hardware key
(HW Key) is displayed.
• From the SAP Business One Service
Manager, select License Manager 2007
from the drop-down list, choose the
Settings icon, enter your server name,
and choose Connect. The hardware
key is displayed.

6 Send the hardware key to your SAP
Business One partner (unless you wish
to request the license key yourself).
Go to step 8, or, if you wish to request the
license key yourself, go to step 7b.
7a Request the license key
(step performed by partner).
The following information is relevant for
PARTNERS only.
To request a license key, go to channel
.sap.com/sbo/licensekeys, choose Request
License Key, select your installation
number, and follow the instructions
provided on the Web page. You can request
a license key for an existing system if your
hardware key or the number of users has
changed. For more information, see SAP
Notes 578256 and 622998.
The license key will be available on the SAP
Channel Partner Portal within one hour
and will also be sent to you by e-mail.
To find information about deleting or
returning SAP Business One licenses, go
to channel.sap.com/sbo/licensekeys. For
more information, see SAP Notes 614911
and 596562.

7b Request the license key 8 Install the license key.

CUSTOMERS only.
As an SAP Business One customer, you can
also request the license key yourself. Go to
channel.sap.com/sbocustomer and select
License Key from the Workbench navigation
panel on the left.
After receiving the license key, copy the
license file to your computer as follows:
a. In the SAP Business One Service
Manager, open the Settings window
for the License Manager Service.
b. Browse for the license key file.
c. To install your license key file, choose
Import.

The license key will be available on the SAP

Business One Customer Portal within one
hour and will also be sent to you by e-mail.

To find information about deleting or

returning SAP Business One licenses, go to
channel.sap.com/sbocustomer and select
License Key from the Workbench navigation
panel on the left. For more information,
see SAP Notes 614911 and 596562.

UPDATING SAP BUSINESS ONE
If you are installing a patch to an existing
release or if you are upgrading to a newer
release, follow these steps.
The following information is relevant for
PARTNERS only.
If you experience problems when down-
loading software, create a message under
component SBO-CRO-SUP. When you
create messages, access is restricted to SBO
components.

9 Download the SAP Business One patch or

upgrade from SAP Service Marketplace.
a. Go to the Software Distribution Center
in SAP Service Marketplace at
service.sap.com/sbo-swcenter.
b. To download a patch or an upgrade,
choose Updates, under SAP Business
One Products in the navigation panel.
c. Navigate to and select the relevant
download object.
d. Before starting the download, read
the Info file for the selected download
object.
e. Before you start the update, read the
Administrator’s Guide that is part of
the update package.

Customer Portal
For documentation on specialized topics, online
learning, and online support services, go to
the SAP Business One Customer Portal at
channel.sap.com/sbocustomer.
To log on to the SAP Business One Customer
Portal, you need an Internet connection as
well as an S-user identification and a password.
Your partner can provide you with the S-user
identification and password.

For online access to the Support Center, go

the Get Support tab.
SAP Business One Partners
To get support for SAP Business One versions,
create a message in the SAP Business One
Support Center in the SAP Channel Partner
Portal. To access the Support Center, go to
channel.sap.com/sbo/support.
Under SAP Business One Notes, you find
solutions to known problems. If you cannot
find a suitable solution here, you can create a
message. Check the list of available components
under SBO-** and, depending on the subject,
assign your message to the appropriate com-
ponent – for example, for licensing issues:
