NARRATIVE REPORT

SCHOOL LEARNING ACTION CELL (SLAC)


December 14- 18, 2020

I. INTRODUCTION

In line with the implementation of Republic Act No. 10533, OR THE Enhanced Basic Education
Act of 2013, the Department of Education (DepEd) issues the policy on Learning Action Cell
(LAC) as a K to 12 Basic Education Program School-Based Continuing Professional
Development Strategy for the Improvement of Teaching and Learning (based on DepEd Order
No. 35 s 2016)

Through this policy, the DepEd fully supports the continuing professional development of its
teaching personnel based on the principle of lifelong learning and DepEd’s commitment to the
development of teachers’ potential aimed towards their success in the profession.

II. OBJECTIVES
In the DepEd, a Learning Action Cell is a group of teachers who engage in collaborative learning
sessions to solve shared challenges encountered in the school facilitated by the school head or a
designated LAC Leader. LACs will become the school-based communities of practice that are
positive, caring, and safe spaces.

Key aspects of the process are ongoing collaborative learning or problem solving within a shared
domain of professional interest, self-directed learning, reflective practice leading to action and
self evaluation, and collective competence. The following are the objectives of this policy.

 to improve the teaching-learning process that will lead to improved learning among the
students;
 to nurture successful teachers;
 to enable teachers to support each other to continuously improve their content and
pedagogical knowledge, practice, skills, and attitudes; and
 to foster a professional collaborative spirit among school heads, teachers, and the
community as a whole.
III. ACTIVITIES:

Day 1: December 14, 2020

During the first day of our LAC session, three among our master teachers namely Dick Ducut,
Lyre Guevarra and Carmen Serrano discussed the Interim Guidelines for Assessment and
Grading in Light of the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (New Grading System). The
facilitators were able to give emphasis on rationale, definition of terms, policy statement,
procedures, planning the assessment, conducting assessment remotely, feedback and
remediation, grading and promotion, role of technology and monitoring and evaluation.

Actual sample of computations on the new grading system both for Junior and Senior High
School were given emphasis for teachers to be guided on the new normal grading system.

Day 2: December 15, 2020

On the second day of LAC, Dr. Jocelyn D. Baluyut, our school principal discussed about the
Ways to Improve Crafting Weekly Home Learning Plan.

Importance were highlighted on knowing what is Weekly Home Learning Plan, the procedures in
Developing a Weekly Home Learning Plan, the Individual Learning Monitoring Plan, Learning
in the Time of COVID-19, Sample digital learning management systems, How to move out of
the day-by-day lesson planning trap and think big picture and Teaching Through a Pandemic: A
Mindset for This Moment

At the end of the day, Dr. Baluyut stressed Ira Lit Quotes “We can't jettison all of our
professional knowledge and expertise because the context has changed. We're figuring out ways
to retool, to meet the moments, to be creative and innovative. We need to rely on principles of
effective practice, our core mission and our core values, and the aspirations we have for our
candidates, for educators in the field, and for the students, families, and communities that they
serve.”

Day 3: December 15, 2020

The third day of LAC session focused on the topic: Enhancing Teachers’ Competencies in
Implementing Online and Modular Distance Learning shared by Dr. Jocelyn D. Baluyut.
On her slides, Dr. Baluyut noted Rappler quotation " There are a number of daunting challenges
that need to be addressed and overcome for distance education to be efficiently and effectively
delivered." She also tackled on how the pandemic has changed education, tools for learning

pedagogy, what are some expectation of an online teachers, competencies for online teachers or
E- teachers, learning delivery modalities, advantage and disadvantage of distance learning, tips
for parents or guardians on adapting to distance learning, tips for educators on working with
guardian and views on distance learning.

Her final note was about realizing our core as teachers and working with passion and
commitment amidst the pandemics.

Day 4: December 16, 2020

Two among our senior high school teachers who are technology driven shared timely and
relevant topics on the use of technology in delivering quality education in this time of pandemic.

In her session, Mam Jesamine Salazar shared inputs about the topic: E-learning: A New World
for Filipino Teachers. She was able to capture the attention of the participants thru learning by
doing. After the concepts and theories were discussed, she asked teachers to work on their own
using their laptops/gadgets.

The second facilitator for the day was Mam Kamille Alein Ramirez wherein she discussed about
Gamification: A 21st Century Teaching Tool in Online Education. Ms. Ramirez shared another
interesting applications which are suitable and important in capturing learners’ attention during
online classes. Hand-on games and activities were also prepared by the said facilitator which
actively played and participated by the teachers.

Day 5: December 18, 2020

The last day of our LAC was made departmentally. Teachers on a certain subject area/level
discussed topics such as best practices in teaching students in the new normal, innovation and
researches applicable in the pandemic, module retrieval distribution updates, and individual and
workweek plan preparations.
