Math’s Internal Assessment

Co-relation between IPL strike Rates and average and height of the
players.
Introduction –
Cricket is more than a sport to me, it’s a religion. Today I can wake up in the middle of the night
I can watch a test match lasting four days and each ball keeps me intrigued when India is playing
overseas. Recently the Bangladesh Team travelled to India and their coach made a statement
that the team players are not tall enough to hit sixes and hence they have to run hard between the
wickets. To a cricket lover these terminologies are clear but for the sake of a person who doesn’t
watch cricket, I will attempt to explain

Data collection –

Coefficient of correlation (r):

Formula:
∑ x ×∑ y
∑ xy −
n
r=
√¿¿¿

Standard deviation ):
The r value has been calculated and the graph has been plotted. From observation of the graph
the trend can be spotted. A Non- linear relationship exists and the correlation between the marks
and the quantity of answer sheets taken is proven to be a positive correlation as the r calculated
value is also in positive. A value of tells us that the strength of the positive correlation is weakly
positive.
Further I shall calculate the Standard Deviation and Mean of the Raw data.
STANDARD DEVIATION
For English Marks

∑ ( xi −μ2 )
Formula: σ =
√ N

Formula: s= √∑ ¿¿ ¿ ¿

Using Central Tendencies to analyze data

. First let us calculate the mean and standard deviation of each gender separately and then
consequently the whole sample space therefore, interpreting the results.

The Chi-Square test

Well this is a test we can only perform on categorical data and not numerical which means we
can use this test in the case of gender text and colour. we can use this test. In this test we finally
get a value of p, which should be less than 0.05 for us to show that the variables are dependent.
The reason we take 0.05 is because it is the standard bar used for the Chi-Square test. We could
also use the value 0.01 but in our case, we will use 0.05 as the data is limited to 15 sample spaces
and as shown above the standard deviation is significantly high.
Let us find out the value of p in our case:

Conclusion
Then these variables will be plotted against each other on a scatterplot. We will differentially
plot the points of men and women as there is a significant difference of the arm reach due to the
structural difference. I tried to find the line of best fit and there was a very weak positive relation
between the two in the male’s graph and a very weak negative relation in the women’s graph.
Although we can be wrong in our analysis as the sample space was only 15 and maybe a lot
more data points can bring out a relation between these two variables. Uncertainties were not
calculated as they were not mentioned on the site that I collected my data from.
