20. Role of Social Media during Covid Pandemic

1. For WAT, prefer a five paragraph write up with the introduction followed by three arguments
followed by the conclusion.

2. In case of solution oriented questions like so and so problem is there you need to solve it.

3. In case of opinion based questions, the three paragraphs must be divided like 2 pro paragraphs
and 1 con paragraph or vice versa

4. At max 1200-1500 not more than that at any cost, preferably of 600-800 or 1000 words.
Quality content writing.

5. fluency, Organisation of Thought, Grammer, Knowledge

For WAT few additional points:-

1. Please practice typing the answers beforehand so as to make most of the provided time. Do not
rely on autocorrect during practice, because as far as I remember, the software did not have a
provision of auto detecting double spaces/spelling mistakes unlike Ms word.
2. Secondly, make a precise mind-map first regarding how you'll go about the topic. What
information will every paragraph contain, what things you'll explain, what mentions you'll give,
start to end, everything. Take a good five minutes figuring it out, as it will reduce a lot of time
while actually writing the essay. Do not freestyle and start as soon as you see the question. It will
hamper your flow and coherence.

3. As mentioned earlier, bifurcation of the essay is very important, and it easily gives you an
upper edge among fellow candidates.

4. Introduction should be of brief 7-8 lines wherein you elaborate on the topic and explain
what the question is actually asking per se. For example:- If the question is regarding US
troops leaving Afghanistan and it's repercussions. The intro lines should be about what the issue
actually is, when and why the troops arrived, why are they leaving, till when it is expected to
complete, what forces and bodies are involved etc. Basically, whatever you know about it from
the CA section. The more specific details and facts you give, the more brownie points it fetches
you. And then briefly throw light about what the essay will say. Use terms like "vis a vis",
"hitherto", "erstwhile", "prima facie" etc (not necessarily, but only if it is possible for you). The
best way to write with this vocab is to read editorials and closely observe in what style the author
has written the piece. You must have noticed these words there. It helps a tonne and makes your
essay look very professional and formal.

Only one line space after the intro.

The main body should be crisp and concise. They don't want to read 30 lines containing
something which could have been summarised in 20 lines. Do not beat around the bush just to
write more words, it does not give you an edge. The prime point in order to make your essay
stand out is to make sure it is unique. How will you make it unique? See, every candidate will
easily write the facts about the issue but the defining point is where you are asked to write your
own opinion/solution. The more comprehensive and sensible it is, the more marks it'll get you.

5. Grammatical mistakes should be avoided at all costs. To make sure of this, read every
paragraph atleast twice after writing it. Be confident of your opinion. Like in this topic, the
troops' pullout will negatively affect the country's political and societal structure. Taliban has
already started capturing key areas. Why is this happening/ Why will this happen in future?
Always give answers to the "why's" to the points you are writing, and you're good to go.

One line space after the main body.

Conclusion should be a summary of what all has been written in a brief and concise
manner. Kindly use the term "To conclude with," and then write whatever you want to.

6. One more important suggestion:- Write it in third person. Rather than writing "I would
like to suggest", prefer "The author would like to suggest". These are not the tips I got from
coachings and all, it's just my experience. Especially after studying at SLS, I got familiar with
what format of content appeals to the professors.

When everything is done, give it a final read. Use synonyms of easy words if possible (just a
suggestion, not compulsory) for example using "succinct" instead of "concise". Don't worry that
you'll lose out if you don't have a fancy vocabulary, there is nothing like that. But it'll make your
essay just a little better.

Save after every line.

7. 800 words (200+400+200 intro body conclusion) is perfect.
