INTRODUCTION

ADB Youth for Asia’s strategic framework recognizes that investing in young people to empower them
as active partners in development is essential in achieving a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and
sustainable Asia and the Pacific for all. The United Nation’s (UN) Youth Strategy 2030 similarly
highlights the importance of youth engagement to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
by leveraging the "large and increasing number of young people across the globe." Studies show that
such investments accelerate human development and maximize dividends associated with young,
productive populations. However, this is a complex prospect for the region, given the co-existence of
aging and youthful societies. In this space, mutually beneficial intergenerational partnerships can
determine our ability to maximize youth’s contributions in addressing complex development challenges
in the region.

ADB Youth for Asia is launching a case research initiative and seeking case proposals of original and
unpublished project examples that mainstreamed meaningful youth engagement in its design and
delivery in Asia and the Pacific. The study aims to:

1. Understand how meaningful youth engagement adds value to development projects;

2. Identify the different barriers and enablers to meaningful youth engagement; and
3. Recognize how development institutions and governments can be incentivized to embed
meaningful youth engagement in their initiatives.

Case examples of development projects must fall under one of the following themes: youth economic
empowerment; health; and climate change. In addition, only case proposals of projects implemented in
an ADB member country (https://bit.ly/ADBmembers) will be eligible. Selected proposals will be paired
with a research specialist who will develop a case study based on the proposal. Final case studies will be
presented in a conference organized by Youth for Asia and considered for publication in an ADB
knowledge product in 2022.
II. SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
