As students quoted by Dr. Jose Rizal as “the holders of the future”, DepEd and the DOH fused
and made the “Oplan kalusugan sa DepEd.” from forged ideas and initiated health programs to ensure
the health of every learner in schools.

Within this project are the dental and health checkups, vaccinations for protection and cure,
wash in school or W.I.N.S to eliminate germs, feeding program for malnourished children, right facilities
such as comfort rooms per gender to give way on ensuring health on different aspects such as the
physical, and genital health.

The government has put so much focus on the welfare of the learners by doing this much to
protect their health.“Protection is better than cure” is one of the mottos that DOH holds on to. With this
being said, Nurse II, health unit, DepEd Calapan City Lawrence Sevegan stated that symposiums about
health awareness are regularly held in different schools in Calapan.

Their projects really served great effectivity. “Based sa experience ko nung nagkaroon ng dental
and health checkups at feeding programs mas bumaba na yung mga batang umaabsent.” [Based on my
experience when dental, health checkups and feeding programs were made the absentees lowered in
number.] Sevegan said.

The teamwork that DOH and DepEd made has truly gave so much improvement in the sake of
the students, the future holders. Having programs to congest student’s health needs have also proven
that there are serious programs, and the money of the nation isn’t put into waste. Their first baby steps
were praised, now it’s time to walk farther and create large impact to students’ life for the betterment
of our society’s future.
