“Hi, I’m Baymax! Your personal healthcare companion.

”, this line derives from one of the high-grossing

animated films of 2016, “Big Hero 6”. The film has achieved big influence to children thanks to white
marshmallow-like robot named Baymax. It captured hearts of people by his adorable features and being
all-in-one health provider reffering as the “next generation health provider” where hospital equipment
and personal health needs meet. In the movie, he has shown flexibility for being a friend, a brother, and
a hero who could punish villains. But don’t you know that Baymax exists in real life in the form of
Department of Education?

With great power comes with great responsibility

DepEd does not only focus on the educational aspects of children such as having Open High Programs
and Alternative Learning System (ALS), inclined with that their partnership with Department of Health
has given opportunity to seek medical attention for student by initiating programs. Their mission is to
“provide healthy servers of the future” by having feeding programs targeting malnourished children who
can’t eat with 3G’s, Go, Grow, and Glow. These program children ensure good maintenance of foods
needed for students.

Another type of programs is the W.I.N.S or Wash in School which focuses on having good hygienic
location for washing hands eliminating germs. Washing hands doesn’t only mean having water running
into your hands, it goes beyond by scrubbing the spaces in between your fingers by a germ-eliminating
soap!

With the power to influence and encourage people to study, DepEd has given another responsibility to
assure healthy long-life learners.

Second parents, second nurses

Teacher does not only “facilitate learning and constantly nurture every learner” as stated on the DepEd
Mission, inclined with that is an additional work information stating “assist on personal health needs of
students and leading awareness with DOH aid.”

They don’t only stand as persons to give us knowledge and develop self-understanding, beyond with
that is their help in providing assistance by surveying their advisory class essential access to check-ups
and handling papers such as deworming and giving out medicines.

They also help us on our mental health truly by acting as guidance counselors and enabling supportive
measures to us by simply being an outlet with problems students can’t share with parents or friends.

“Health is wealth and by achieving wealth, there’s skills and knowledge harnessed.” To be a productive
life-long learner, health must be maintained at all costs and with that DepEd ensures that we are not
walking alone, that they are here to support us with our educational and health matters.
