Wild Card - transformation theme
Factory Misprint - transformation theme

Apparently is a creation of Larry Jennings.

Description: The magician take out a cardboard box of thumbtacks and lay it on the table.
On the back of the box there is a card, stuck to it with a thumbtack. A card is chosen and
signed. The magician takes out the four kings and place the chosen card in the middle of
them. The chosen card vanishes. When the magician shows the face of the card that was
stuck to the thumbtack box, it is the previously signed and chosen card.

Open Prediction - The magician shows a card which is the prediction of the future selection
of the spectator. The spectator then is asked to go trough the face down deck, turning every
card face up, until he "feels something" and choses to let the next card face down. Then the
spectator keep dealing the cards face up, until the end of the deck. The face down card is
proven to match the prediction made by the magician, which was known to everyone before
the dealing.

Collectors - three audience members each select a card and return them to a shuffled deck.
Magician introduces 4-of-Kind (e.g. Kings). Cuts them face up into the deck and they trap the
three selections interlaced between them.

(Any) card at (any) number - a (freely) selected card appear at a (freely) selected
number/position in the deck

Off Balance transposition - selection transpose with such as the four aces
Chaos to order - such as triumph / shuffled deck back to new deck order
Vanish + transposition - Ace Assembly

Seems to me that this list could be reduced quite a bit by eliminating "plots" such as card-to-
wallet that are really just special cases of the "magical relocation" plot. Otherwise you would
have to list every possible sort of object (e.g. can of soup, Kleenex box, pint of ice cream,
blueberry muffin, etc. etc.) as a different "plot". If the card-to-impossible location effect is
one item on the list, would a group-of-cards-to-an-impossible location be a new plot in the
master list? Without any clear criteria for defining what counts as a different plot, the list will
become extremely long with lots of essentially minor variations on a theme. For example,
the "Appointment in Samara" effect by Darwin Ortiz seems to me to have some distinctive
characteristics that would qualify it as a unique plot, but others may disagree. Darwin says
its related to Guy Hollingworth's "The Cassandra Quandary" in "Drawing Room Deceptions.

ACAAN (Any Card At Any Number) - A spectator names a card, another spectator names a
number between 1 and 52. The selected card appears at the chosen number, as the cards
are being dealt.

Ace Assembly - the magician easily locates and produces the aces from a shuffled deck

ACR (Ambitious Card Routine) - A chosen card is inserted in the middle of the deck and

Cards across- a number of cards vanish from one location to appear in another location

card fusion - two cards fusion into one.

Card stunt - the magician performs a stunt with a playing card, like throwing it in an arc or
doing a pretty flourish (hey, this one is not really magic… maybe XCM? But this is not what
I’m interested in…)

Card under glass- Classic bar trick where a selected card appears repeatedly under
someone's drink.

Card to Impossible Location - card is lost in the deck and reappears somewhere impossible

Card to Wallet - A chosen card is lost in the deck and reappears in the magician's wallet.

card to pocket- a selected card is found in the magicians pocket

card to ceiling- a selected card sticks to the ceiling

future predications

Gambling demo - the magician demonstrates a range of sleight of hand techniques for

The Haunted Pack - One or more chosen cards are found as the deck becomes animated and
cuts itself.

Hofzinser ace problem. A selected card is returned to the deck, four aces are shown and the
ace of the sane suit as the selection turns face down, giving a cult to the identity of the
selected card. Finally, the ace transposes with the selection, leaving the selected card gave

spectator, when asked where the specific card is, will always tell it is the wrong card.

Multiple selection- Several people select cards, they are found each in a fancy, flashy
manner.

Pick a card, find a card - a card is selected in one of a hundred ways, is lost in the pack, and is
found by the magician in one of a hundred ways

Prediction - a card is named, or written down, then a card is selected and the selection
matches the prediction. (I don’t think prediction per se is a plot, but is part of a plot)

Off Balance transposition - selection transpose with such as the four aces

Oil and Water - Red cards and black cards are put together in alternating order, and after a
magical gesture, the colors are separated.

OOTW (Out Of This World) - The spectator is able to separate the cards in reds and blacks, by

card then turns into the selected card, often in a visual manner.

Trapdoor Card -- Topological effect where card turns over while spectator holds it

Triumph - A chose card is lost on the deck. The deck is shuffled, half of the cards face up and
half face down. The chosen card is found to be the only face up card in a face down deck.

Twenty-one card trick -- after interminable counting of the same cards, entire audience
disappears! (I’ve seen a good variation of this plot fooling some magicians. So, it could be a
trick better than you think…)

Twisting type of effect- Cards held in hand, usually a 4 of a kind turn face up or down.
Sometimes a kicker with one or more of them changing to different cards, or different backs.

"Sam the bellhop" type card trick - the magician construct a story using all the card in the
