Total: 8+17
Time: 2 Hours

1.(5 points)
Let G be a finite Group and A,B subsets of G.Show that either G = AB or
|G| ≥ |A| + |B|.

2.(3 points)
Suppose that H is a subgroup of G such that whenever Ha6=Hb then aH6=bH.
Prove that gHg −1 ⊂ H for all g ∈ G.

3.(optional 5 + 5 points)
(a)Show that there is a transitive subgroup H of S6 with the following three
properties
i)H is simple
ii)|H| = 60
iii)H is contained in A6

(b)Prove or disprove the following:

∀φ ∈ Aut(A6 ) ∃σ ∈ S6 such that φ(x) = σxσ −1 , for all x ∈ A6 .

4.(optional 7 points)
Classify all finite subgroups of O2 (R).

(Additional Information)
i)A group G is called transitive if its group action is transitive. In other words,
if the group orbit is equal to the entire set for some element x in G, then G is
transitive.
ii)A simple group is a nontrivial group whose only normal subgroups are the
trivial group
 and the group itself.
iii)On (F)= Q ∈ GL(n, F ) | QT Q = QQT = I .
