ABOUT CRC 2021
Every single citizen from the youngest to the oldest lives within a complex legal context – with
rights, responsibilities, transactions, standards, processes, procedures, the implications of which
are often very imperfectly understood, and which are left to the experts. For quite a number of
reasons there really is an onus on all citizens to understand, at some level, the basic principles
and concepts that make up our legal system. Liberally, legal awareness or public legal education
serves the society by imparting to young people and professionals general and cultural education,
making them good law-abiding citizens.
Basic knowledge of the law has become necessary for all those who are engaged in the academe,
administration, commerce, media and social reformation. Hence, true to its commitment to help
in the administration of justice and the advancement of the dignity of our legal system, the Court
Appointments Watch PH (CAW PH) which composed of Association of Law Students of
the Philippines (ALSP), Alternative Law Groups (ALG), Philippine Association of Law
Schools (PALS), UP Institute for the Administration of Justice (UP IAJ), Judicial Reform
Initiative (JRI), and Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, presents “From
Courtroom to Campus: Regional Legal Awareness Caravan 2021 (CRC 2021).”
CRC 2021 is a three-day regional capacity-building and forum campus caravan hosted by
University of Nueva Caceres, Naga, University of San Jose – Recoletos, Cebu, and Xavier
University – Ateneo de Cagayan. The project consists of legal experts and advocates and will be
open to participants from all over the country.
The CAW PH is a national, multi-sectoral network of members of the academe, youth, civil
society organizations, the private sector, and the media that aims to raise public engagement on
the judicial appointments process.
The goal of this project is to empower citizens to be effective in the enjoyment of their civic
capacities with the basic knowledge of at least some aspects of the law and the court. The people,
particularly those in the academe, need an understanding of parts of the legal system, its
underlying policies and values, and its influence in the society at large.
