Chromogenic UTI Clarity Agar
Chrornogenic UTI Clarity Agar contains two chrornogenic substrates which are cleaved by enzymes produced by E. coli, Enterococcus
spp. and coliforrns; B-galactosidase and 0-glucosidase. Enzyrnic activity cleaves the chrornogens giving a range of diagnostic colours
(see Venn Diagram). 0-galactosidase activity (E. col4 results in pink colonies, O-glucosidase activity (enterococci) gives bluelturquoise
colonies and activity of both enzymes (coliforms) gives dark bluelpurple colonies. Tryptophan deaminase activity produces a brown
halo around the colony (Proteus, Morganella and Providencia spp.). Other organisms exhibit their natural pigmentation.
