TOPIC: Sabbath Day Observance | Tithes and Offerings

SUNDAY “CANS”

INT. HOUSE – DAY

BGM: For the First Time in Forever (from FROZEN)

SFX: Alarm Clock ringing

Girl1 is still asleep in her bed when the alarm clock goes ringing. She looks at
the clock, surprised, and starts to look excited.

GIRL1
It’s Sabbath Day!
The window is open, so’s the door.
I didn’t know they did that anymore.
No more lockdown implemented here.
For months I stayed up in the house
Do chores and modules everyday
Finally I can go outside the gates.

There’ll be actual real-live people

And it is totally strange
‘Cos before I only see them virtually.

And for the first time in forever

I can finally go to church.
For the first time in forever
I can partake of the sacrament.

And from that I’ll renew my covenants

And testimony will I share
‘Cos for the first time in forever
Nothing’s in my way.

Girl1 hurried into the living room to greet her family.

GIRL1 (CONT’D)
I can’t wait to meet everyone!
 Hi Mama! Hi Kuya!

MAMA
Hi Anak! Are your clothes ready?
GIRL1
Ahh—

Look at this dress that I would wear
I choose to be modest because I care

MAMA

All of us can go to church

We could meet members face to face.

And we know it’s still pandemic

SFX: Car Starting Engine
Everyone gets into their car and drives to church.

INT. CHURCH – DAY

BDM: Welcome, Welcome, Sabbath Morning (HYMN No. 280)

Everyone gets out of the car and enters the church.

PAPA
The weather matches my mood today.
Good morning Elders/Sisters!
BOY1
Good morning Elders/Sisters!
MISSIONARIES
Good morning too Brothers.

Girl1 is approached by two sisters.

SISTER1
Hello Sister Girl1!
We haven’t seen each other in quite some time.
How are you doing?
GIRL1
I’m great! I am so happy to see you all again after
several months of lockdown in our city.
SISTER2
What did you do during the lockdown?
GIRL1
Well, I’ve been doing chores as well as attending
online classes and answering my modules.

Boy2 goes over to Girl1 and the Sisters.

BOY2
Good day Sisters! Let’s take our seats, Ate Girl1, the
meeting is about to start.

A curtain will enter and pass to hide everyone, and when it leaves, the family
and other members will be seen carrying their tithing slip.

BOY1
Good morning President Blank. Here’s my tithing slip.
BOY3
Here’s mine too President.
 PRESIDENT
Thank you, Brothers Boy1 and Boy3, for your faith,
love, and thankfulness for God’s blessings.
BOY3
President, where do our tithes go or how are they
used?
PRESIDENT
Tithing will be used in building temples and
meetinghouses, translate and publish the scriptures,
do missionary and family history work, and in other
ways build God’s kingdom on earth.
BOY1
Wow! I didn’t know we can help that much just by
paying one-tenth of our income.
PRESIDENT
Yes, it is! And you should pay willingly with a thankful
heart. Pay it first, even when you think you do not
have enough money to meet other needs. Doing so
will help you develop greater faith, overcome
selfishness, and be more receptive to the Spirit.
BOY3
How about fasting?
Why do we need to fast President?
PRESIDENT
Church members fast by going without food and
drink for two consecutive meals. They contribute at
least the amount of money they would have spent for
the meals or may give generously as they are able.
This offering is called the fast offering. I use these fast
offerings to provide food, shelter, clothing, and
medical care for the poor and needy.

As they listen, young men appear joyful and enthusiastic.

PRESIDENT (CONT’D)
Church members are encouraged to fast every first
Sunday each month and at other times as needed or
desired. As Latter-day Saints, we believe that fasting
combined with sincere prayer can provide spiritual
 strength, closeness to God and preparation to receive
His blessings.
BOY1
Thank you, President, for telling us about tithing and
fasting.

BOY2
Now I know that if we obey the law of tithing and the
law of the fast, the Lord will bless us both spiritually
and temporally.

The curtain will enter again and pass them. As it leaves, the stage will be
shown that they have returned home.

BDM: Stick to the status quo (High School Musical)

GIRL1
Finally we’re home!

Then Girl2 try to open the TV, and Boy1 notices her and would try to stop her.

BOY1
No! No, no, no!
Choose the right, you know
If you wanna be blessed
Then try with your best
Don’t let Satan fooled you slowly
Keep Sabbath day holy!

GIRL2
Sorry. Thanks for reminding me to keep Sabbath Day
holy. But, what can I do on Sunday?

MAMA
Well, there are lot of things we can do during Sunday.
We can do services like—
BOY2
I’ll be working on genealogy records!

Everyone is happily surprised and just laugh when Boy2 immediately response.
 PAPA
That’s great Boy2!

GIRL1
I will go to the neighbourhood to visit Lola and Lolo
and minister to them.

BOY1
I will come with you Girl1.
MAMA
Wow! That’s a wonderful service to do Girl1 and
Boy2.
PAPA
How about you Girl2?
GIRL2
I’ll continue practicing in my piano.

Parents are smiling brightly looking at their children.

PAPA
That’s amazing, continue develop your talent in
playing piano Girl2. Surely Heavenly Father will bless
you all in observing the Sabbath and choosing the
right.

BDM: Belle (Beauty and the Beast)

Children will go ahead and prepare for the things they will to do for this day.

PAPA
Oh, and by the way, we will have dinner at your Lolo
and Lola’s house at 6 pm, I and your Mom will
prepare for our gospel-themed matching games, so,
be ready kids!

CHILDREN
Hooray!
Girl1 and Boy1 will now go out in the house and come outside the
neighbourhood. As they are heading towards their grandparent’s house,
neighbours notice them.
NEIGHBOUR1
Look, there they goes, these siblings are peculiar
In the way they treasure family.

NEIGHBOUR2
Every Sunday just the same
They’ll go visit their grandparents

NEIGHBOUR1&2
No denying their great love for them.

GIRL1
Oh, isn’t this amazing?
After months of lockdown we’ll see them.

BOY1
Oh, how I miss our grandparents
I can’t wait to see them now
And give them hug and kiss.

Lola will enter the stage sitting in a chair showing that she is waiting for Girl1
and Boy1. The two children will then see her.

GIRL1 & BOY1

Lola!
LOLA
Mga Apo ko! Boy1 and Girl1, how are you?

GIRL1
We’re good Lola, we missed you so much! It’s been
months since we last saw each other because of
lockdown.
BOY1
Where is Lolo by the way?

Lolo will enter and surprise them.

 LOLO
Who’s looking for me?

GIRL1 & BOY1

Lolo!
They run towards him.
LOLO
(Giggles) Mga apo ko!
I miss you so much! Give me a hug.

Lola also joined to hug their grandchildren. As they continuously hug each
other, the rest of the family enter.

PAPA
Can we also join?

BOY2
Lolo and Lola! How are you?

LOLA
We’re fine apo. Come and have a sit everyone.
How’s your Sabbath day everyone?
