When we look at the problem on a first glance, it seems to have a shade of

Fourier Transform tagged with it. We therefore start with the Fourier transform
of cos(ω0 t) and use the trick of integrating under the integral sign.
Z∞
I= eiωt cos(ω0 t) = π [δ(ω − ω0 ) + δ(ω + ω0 )]
−∞
Z∞ Zω0 Zω0
iωt
I1 = e dω0 cos(ω0 t) = π dω0 [δ(ω − ω0 ) + δ(ω + ω0 )]
−∞ 0 0
Z∞ Zω0
iωt sin(ω0 t)
I1 = e =π dω0 [δ(ω − ω0 ) + δ(ω + ω0 )]
t
−∞ 0

Therefore depending on the chosen value of ω, we get two solutions:

• |ω| > |ω0 | → I1 = 0

• |ω| < |ω0 | → I1 = π
