Question No. 1
Elaborate the process of curriculum development? Write explanation of each step by
giving one example.

Answer. The process of curriculum development:

Curriculum development is a process of
improving the curriculum. The curriculum development process systematically organizes
what will be taught, who will be taught, and how it will be taught. Each component affects
and interacts with other components. The four basic stages involved in the curriculum
development process are briefly discussed below:

1. Planning: during this stage, the specific development steps are laid out. The idea or
issue that is being addressed is determined and a curriculum development team is
formed. Once professionals are gathered, they look over changes in the content area
and assess the needs of the students.
For example,
 Identifying the issue,
 Forming the team of expert curriculum developers,
 conduct Needs, Assessment and Targets etc.

2. Content: as the team moves into the second stage, their focus turns to the intended
outcomes of the curriculum, the program’s unifying framework, and the content they
are focusing on. After that, new methods of teaching said content are created.
For example,
 State Intended Outcomes
 Select Content
 Design Experiential Methods

3. Implementation: finally, the new designs and methods are put into play. Facilitators
must be carefully trained in the new curriculum and any revisions should be made
based on how the new program is received. Not every plan results in the desired
goals, so developers must be willing to change things.
For example,
 Produce Curriculum Product
 Test and Revise Curriculum
 Recruit and Train Facilitators
 Implement Curriculum

4. Evaluation: as the curriculum’s use continues, it may require updates as the world
progresses. New content may be added in while old content might be removed. Additionally,
the curriculum may start to fail with newer groups of students, thus requiring another
redesign.

For example,
 Design Evaluation Strategies
 Reporting and Securing Resources.

Question No. 2
What is the difference between culture and society? How does society affect culture?
Give justified examples?
Answer.
Definition of Culture
The term culture refers to a system of beliefs, customs, knowledge, behavior, religion,
practices, etc., which is commonly shared by a group of people. It is described as the people’s
way to live such as their learned behavior, values, morals, art, law, symbols, lifestyle which
they accept completely without any second thought in mind. In general, culture is handed
down through the generations, by communication, teaching and imitation. It is considered as
the social heritage of the organized group.

Definition of Society
We define the term ‘society’ as a group of people who share a common lifestyle, territory,
behavior pattern and organisation. It refers to an ordered community, engaged in a continuous
social interaction with the members.
In simple terms, society implies the bunch of people who organise themselves and lives
together in a particular geographical area and come in contact with each other. The members
of the society share common attributes like values, traditions and customs. They also share
similar cultures and religion. Each and every member is important to the society, as its
existence depends on the members only.

How does society affect culture?

Different societies and their attitudes can affect the culture of a country or region, and its
consequent practices and norms.
For example, a more open society has a culture that is being shaped by other cultures,
adopting passing practices and interesting trends picked up from foreigners and/or minorities.
It may sometimes be more willing to change its practices and norms, if it is considered an
advantage.
A closed society may be more defensive of their way of life, so they continue their practices
with minimal influence from others. They could also be suspicious of outsiders: at best, they
could be left alone; or at worst, they could either be isolated and miserable, or they decline
into backwardness.
The inhabitants’ attitude towards their culture also shapes it. They could either be more
“traditional”, adapting their practices into a more “advanced” environment or shutting
themselves away from modernity. Or, they could be more “liberal”, discarding their traditions
just to be more trendy or respectable to foreigners.
