COMMENTARY:
Taxi violence and shootings may be expected to continue within the Bellville/Kraaifontein
areas. A number of taxi related shootings as been reported during recent weeks - The latest
incident took place on Monday 5 June 2021 near the Bellville Taxi Rank where four
individuals were seemingly shot at at random and sustained injuries as result.

The threat of Taxi violence and unrest which may escalate during this week, should
therefore be addressed and staff working shifts are to be briefed accordingly. Services and
City Departments are requested to communicate this theat to their operational members
and to highlight the seriousness of taking precautions to keep all members within our
Services safe during their daily operations, patrols and during shift-changes.

RECOMMENDATION:
This office recommends that deployments should be put in place to minimise the risk of
public unrest, violence, damage to City of Cape Town infrastructure as well as any
disruptions which may subsequently be caused by Taxi’s forming motorcades and where
roads may be blockaded.

The SIMS office will continue to monitor this gathering and further communication and
information obtained, will be forwarded to the relevant stakeholders.

PLEASE NOTE:
Strict Covid-19 protocols should be enforced and adhered to as per Level 4 – Lockdown
