1. TERMS AND DEFINITIONS


• Owner/Client: Abadan Petrochemical Company

• EPC Contractor: Butane Procurement & Engeneering Services Company, Shall Mean
the Contractor Responsible For Engineering, Procurement & Construction of the Project.

• Vendor: The manufacturer /manufacturer's representative selected by the contractor &


approved by the client to supply equipment tools.

• Will: Is normally used in connection with the action by the "company" rather than by a
contractor, supplier or vendor.

• May: Is used where a provision is completely discretionary.

• Should: Is used where a provision is advisory only.

• Shall: Is used where a provision is mandatory.

2. SCOPE
This specification covers the technical requirements of materials for pipes, fittings,
flanges, valves and other piping components for use on process and utility piping
systems.

For High Pressure piping class 10000 API, piping shall be designed according to chapter
IX "High Pressure Piping" of ASME B31.3 section 1

3. REFERENCED STANDARDS
Throughout this Standard the following standards and codes are referred to. The edition
of these standards and codes that are in effect at the time of publication of this Standard
shall, to the extent specified herein, form a part of this Standard.

4. PIPE
All Specifications mentioned in “SPECIFICATION FOR PIPES” shall be considered in
pipe material specification. The line pipe material shall conform to the API 5L/ASTM
A106 GR.B, ASTM A53 GR.B specification.

5. FITTING
All Specifications mentioned in “SPECIFICATION FOR FITTINGS” shall be
considered in fittings material specification. Materials of screwed or socket-welding
forged carbon steel fittings size ½" to 1 ½" shall conform to ASME B16.11 group WPB
material and ASTM A105 respectively. Dimensions shall be according to ASME B16.11.
Threaded fittings design shall be according to the ASME B1.20.1.

Fittings sizes 2" and above shall be carbon steel, butt-welding type, dimension and
material conformed to ASME B16.9 and ASTM A234-Gr WPB.

When fittings wall thickness is specified “to match pipe” fittings with commercially
available wall thickness shall be used.

Internally taper bored fittings shall be used if thickness exceeds that of the pipe more
than 1.6 mm.

6. FLANGES
All Specifications mentioned in “SPECIFICATION FOR FLANGES” shall be
considered in flanges material specification.

Flanged connections shall conform to the following facing type:

ASME Rating Facing

150 lb to 600 lb Raised face, serrated finish

900 lb to 2500 lb RTJ. ASME B16.5

2000 lb to 10000 lb RTJ. API 6A (Wellhead Facilities)

Dimensions and material of flanges up to class 2500 lb shall conform to ASME B16.5
and ASTM A105 or ASTM A694-F52 respectively.

For wellhead facility flanges shall conform to API 6A.

7. BOLTS & NUTS


All Specifications mentioned in “SPECIFICATION FOR BOLTS AND NUTS” shall be
considered in bolting material specification.

Stud bolts and nuts threads shall be to ASME B1.1, with bolts class 2A & nuts class 2B
shall be used.

Bolting materials shall meet the specification of ASTM A193 grade B7 (or B7M for sour
service) & Nuts shall meet the specifications of ASTM A194 grade 2H (or 2HM for sour
service).

8. GASKETS
All Specifications mentioned in “SPECIFICATION FOR GASKETS” shall be
considered in bolting material specification.

Non-metallic flat gaskets for class 150# shall be used according to ASME B16.21.

For classes 300# & above, spiral wound gasket shall be used according to
API 601.Gaskets shall be asbestos free.

Ring joints shall conform to ASME B16.20 (up to class 2500 lb) and API 6A (for
wellhead facilities and flow lines)

125 AARH (it is called smooth finish) is specified for Spiral Wound and ring type joint
gaskets (Class >=600#). 250-500 AARH (it is called stock finish) is specified for soft
gaskets (Class <600#).

9. VALVES
All Specifications mentioned in “SPECIFICATION FOR VALVES” shall be considered
in valve material specification.

Material and dimensions and test requirements of valves shall generally conform to
standard API 6D/ASME B16.10/ASME B16.34.

Material and dimensions and test requirements of Wellhead Facility valves shall
generally conform to API 6A.

Forged carbon steel ASME body shall conform to ASTM A105. Casting type carbon
steel body shall be in accordance with ASTM A216 Gr. WCB.

The end flange of all valves shall be serrated finish conformed to ASME B16.5, API 6A
whichever is applicable.

10. BRANCH CONNECTION


Welded branch connection on steel pipes must meet the requirements of
ASME B31.3 STD.

For pipe line to be pigged, tee or branch with 40% or more of the main line diameter
shall be equipped with scraper guide bars.

11. ASSEMBLIES
For detail of assemblies including vent, drain and instrument connections refer piping
standard drawings.

12. PAINTING
The external piping surfaces should be protected against corrosion by applying,
protection coating as per Specification for Painting.
