1. 0BJECTIVE:
The objective of this method statement is to execute PCC works meeting the construction

requirements and technical specifications. Being strong in compression, concrete play a vital role

in enhancing the strength of a structure.

2. SCOPE:
The scope of PCC is to provide a uniform level, impermeable layer to water, a strong base to

foundation and to prevent termite attacks to the structure.

3. REFERENCE :
 IS 456-2000 (Reaff Feb 2016) Code of practice for plain and reinforced concrete

 " IS 2571-1970 (Reaff Jan 2017) Code of practice for laying in-situ cement concrete

4. EQUIPMENT TOOLS AND TACKLES :

Concrete batching plant

 Concrete transit mixtures

 Tower Crane/mobile Crane
 Vibrator & needle
 Aluminium straight edge
 Mason trowel
 String Line / Plumb bob
 Measurement tape
 Concrete buckets
 Total Station
 Nylon thread
 Pumps to place concrete
 Wire brush mesh
 Thermometer

5. MATERIAL USED:

 Concrete of Approved design mix

 Hessian cloth for curing
 Water
 Approved Bonding agent
 Foam sheet
 Cement and crusher sand for making bunds for curing

6. PROCEDURE:

A. PRECAUTIONS BEFORE START OF CONCRETE WORKS

Prior to start concrete works; following shall be ensured:

 Ensure all required work permits are obtained.

 Ensure all predecessor activities are approved.
 Ensure relevant mix design is approved.
 Checklist for both PCC shall be signed before the pour by all respective in-charges
 Ensure all tools and equipment are gathered
 Batching time, grade of concrete, vehicle reached time, slump test shall be verified. Only
passed/approved vehicle shall be allowed to pour concrete.
B. TRANSPORTATION:

The concrete once prepared can be shifted in the following ways:

 Chutes
 Wheel barrows
 Concrete buckets and tower cranes
 Line Pump

C. PLAIN CEMENT CONCRETE (PCC):

 Ensure concrete mix is approved prior to start work
 In case of water stagnation in excavated areas, the same should be dewatered using
suitable motor
 After de-watering, the slush has to be removed.
 Ensure proper compaction and surface preparation (removing dust / debris).
 Ensure the compaction test is carried out in over excavated area after backfilling.
 If necessary, soling has to be done prior to concreting so as to provide impermeable bed to
the PCC.
 Soling is the process of hand packing rubble stones one adjacent to another, to provide a
stable base to the PCC and footing, before concreting work.
 Ensure the measurement length, breadth and depth.
 Ensure thickness of concrete as per requirement.
 Provide edge formwork as required.
 Bull mark or level pegs should be fixed on edges and center with required top level
 Approved concrete grade should be used.
 Concrete should be well compacted after placing using straight edge.
 Concrete by vision should be homogeneous and proper level.
 Curing of PCC shall be done minimum one day and avoid the shrinkage cracks.

D. CURING:

Continuous curing for a minimum period of 3 days is must for any concrete constructed

using Ordinary Portland cement.

7. METHODOLOGY OF OUALITY INSPECTION:

Personnel:
 Ensure all personnel are wearing gumboots, helmets and rubber gloves
 Ensure all personnel are wearing safety belts during concreting at heights or on the
periphery of structures

Before concreting:
 All the shuttering gaps must be cleaned and sealed with cement grease paste so that there is
no leakage of slurry (If applicable).
 Ensure if all cover blocks are kept in place and are intact

During concreting:
 Ensure proper grade of concrete as recommended by the structural consultant is employed

o Evenness of the top surface of fresh concrete should be checked

o Appropriately sized concrete vibrator needle shall be used to ensure sufficient
compaction

After concreting:
Curing should be carried out as per the given guidelines
 Ensure that initial curing is done and proper curing is done regularly

8. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Construction Manager: He shall be responsible for overall management of construction activates.
Site Engineer: He shall be responsible for Executing in safe work method as per drawing and guide
the supervisors and workmen.

Site Supervisor: He shall be responsible managing all plant and machineries and labor and safety
of the workers.

specification and standards.

HSE Manager/Engineer: He shall be responsible for assisting to engineer/supervisor to ensure the

Safety of workers during the progress of work. Safety inductions of each staff and workers shall be

done and daily PPE check to be done and tool box talk shall be carried out before the start of work.

General safety awareness as well as particular safety precautions and guideline for activity to be

carried out in that particular day shall be discussed.

Stores officer: He shall be responsible for receiving and storing of all incoming materials. Also
responsible for maintaining the record of incoming and outgoing and up to date stock details of
materials.
