reference points A. PRECAUTIONS BEFORE START OF CONCRETE WORKS

Prior to start concrete works; following shall be ensured

 Ensure all required work permits are obtained.

 Ensure all predecessor activities are approved.
 Ensure relevant mix design is approved.
 Weather forecast to be verified in advance for mass concrete. Pour plan discussed and
communicated by site team members before starting the pour.

B. SAMPLING AND TESTING OF FRESH CONCRETE

 Concrete shall be brought to site from Ready-mix plants (RMC) by transit mixtures. Delivery
note / batch certificate shall be verified by QC Engineer / Lab technician.
 Fresh concrete sampling and testing shall be carried out at concrete check point as per ITP, prior
to start pouring.
 Batching time, grade of concrete, vehicle reached time, slump test shall be verified. Only
passed/approved vehicle shall be allowed to pour concrete.
 The minimum frequency of sampling of concrete of each grade shall be in accordance with the
following as per IS standards and as mutually agreed with concrete supplier.
 For mass concreting set of samples shall be taken for every 50cum for particular grade of
concrete and 1 set of samples for particular grade of concrete falling less than 50cum on
particular day.
 Slump test shall be carried out as mentioned in IS 1199-2018 and results shall confirm with the
values mentioned in the mix design, Refer - MUM1X0-LWC-XX-ZZ-RP-C-0008.
 Concrete cubes in which 3 samples shall be casted for 7days and another 3 samples for 28days
test and as mentioned in ITP. Refer - MUM1X0-LWC-XX-ZZ-RP-C-0007.
 The test result shall be the average of three specimens. The individual variation should be
within ± 15 percentage of the average as per IS516-2021 and standard deviation shall be as per
table 8 of IS456 - Refer-MUM1X0-LWC-XX-ZZ-MS-C-0061.

C. POURING AND COMPACTION

 Concrete top level shall be marked on formwork/ shuttering as applicable.
 All required scaffold/ access for concreting should be kept clean and clear of any obstacle.
 The surface of formwork, reinforcement, previously cast concrete surface shall be made wet by
light spraying of water prior to start pouring concrete.
 As per the RMC Vendor ‘s statement, the temperature of the concrete may go up to 38º C
during the hottest season.
 However, the temperature can be reduced by storing concrete ingredients in a cool, dry place
and spraying cool water to the aggregates stored in batching plant yard.
 By wetting the rotating mixing drum of the transit mixer.

 Curing the concrete soon after the initial set using approved curing compound (MUM1X0-
LWC-XX-ZZ-MAS-C-0059)
 At time of concreting, reinforcement & formwork area shall be cleaned and free from dust.
Mud, oil, grease, mill scale and other foreign materials.
 Use appropriate needles for vibration depending on the width of element, reinforcement
spacing. For big footings use 60mm dia. needle, for small pours use 40mm dia. needle. Ensure
that just adequate vibration is only done. Over vibration will lead to segregation of concrete and
damaging formwork fixations.
 Cement slurry shall be passed to lubricate the inner surface of concrete dispatching pipe lines,
before pumping concrete into it. This slurry shall be utilized and disposed of suitably and not be
completely discharged only on particular location of pouring.
 Placing of concrete should be done using pumps and achieve necessary free fall height 1.5m
wherever required.
 Do not use chutes longer than 4.5m using plain G.I sheet to pour concrete & with fall of height.
Ensure concrete chute is properly supported and free from loss of slurry..
 Concrete shall be poured into structural element, layer by layer, with proper intermediate
vibratory needle insertions. Layer thickness will be as per approved drawing poured and
compacted prior to pour next layer.
 Ensure that concrete surface shall be provided with broom finish at applicable areas and vertical
element starter surface accommodated within rebars shall be finished with either planting with

aggregates or necessary means of effective hacking.

 Compaction to be carried out for each layer without affecting previous layer. Ensure, entrapped
air inside the concrete is released.
 Concrete surface level shall be ensured by using rotating laser level equipment for slabs, as
practicable to avoid deviation in structural flatness and hampering the thickness finishing with
surface coats.
 Formwork Supports to be frequent checked while pouring. After concrete, wall & column
verticality and alignment to be checked.
 MEP services / sleeves shall be installed and firmly bind as per detail drawing / standard
requirement and ensured to avoid its displacement during concrete activity.
 Extra care shall be taken while pouring and compaction near MEP embedded services to avoid
any damage/ displacement of MEP services/sleeves.
 Concrete surface shall be finished as per requirements by using mason’s trowel/aluminum
straight edges.
 After concreting, all exposed rebar shall be cleaned and free from concrete slurry.
 Water shall not be added at site during concrete pouring.
 Ensure concrete waste is cleaned immediately after completion of concreting works.
 Concrete shall be protected from rain by covering with tarpaulin, as practicable.

 After removal of formwork, if found any defects in concrete surface, it shall be bought into
notification of respective stakeholder and repaired as per corrective action according to
approved method statement for concrete repairs (which will be submitted separately).

D. PUMP AND PIPELINE REQUIREMENTS:

 Concrete mix design to be performed to account for pumping of concrete.

 Pumping operation whenever commenced shall proceed continuously so as to prevent "cold"
joints between placed sections.
 The delivery line of the pump shall be of 100mm diameter or greater and the pump shall be
capable of pumping concrete containing a 20mm nominal size aggregate.
 The pump shall have a receiving hopper and pumping chamber capable of displacing at least
15cum (15m^3) of concrete per hour against a horizontal delivery head of at least 90metre
and/or a vertical delivery head of 20metre.
 Pumping lines shall be of approved metallic type laid to avoid bends and the joints in pumping
lines shall be sealed tight to prevent leakages.
 In the event of a breakdown of the equipment, the necessary backup arrangement made before
the start of the pour shall be used to avoid any delays and for continual execution of pouring
activities.
 The backup arrangement includes Diesel power generator in case of power failure to operate
needle vibrators and lights, Standby pumps, Pipelines and Placer booms will be kept in RMC
plant 2Kms away from site will be used, in case of pour equipment failure. Earthmovers and
rollers shall be used for making new access in case of failure of access during pouring activity.

E. CURING WORKS:

 Approved Curing agent (Refer - MUM1X0-LWC-XX-ZZ-RP-C-0008, MUM1X0-LWC-XX-

ZZ-MAS-C-0059) shall be applied as early as practicable after the concrete is sufficiently
hardened and as per manufacturer’s recommendation. If for any reason curing agent is
unavailable, water curing shall be done.
