Motivation

Sadie is a highly intelligent girl who does not try very hard and gets only minimally

adequate grades. Motivation. If it's lacking on the part of the student, can the educator

do something to increase it?

It is necessary to study complacency, which is the state she is experiencing, To

understand the motivation behind Sadie's behavior. The motive behind her complacent

behavior might be non-prioritization of classwork and a non-satisfactory reward system

(Austin et al., 2020). The student may be motivated to do just enough, which is associated

with low rewards and non-recognition of excellence.

Understanding some unknown aspects of Sadie's life will help the teacher solve the

problem by reducing autonomy (Day, 2019). She should learn about how much effort Sadie

puts in when playing and how she responds to competitive games. The rewards stem in social

games are applicable in schoolwork by comparing the recognition and rewards that follow

when one is among the best in a given game or hobby. She should also analyze how well

Sadie does her housework and other errands and how much attention she pays. Moreover, the

teacher can learn whether parents reward and recognize Sadie's efforts around the household

or go unnoticed. This way, the teacher will know more about Sadie's rewards system and

deduce why she is unwilling to produce her best work. If Sadie is only complacent in

schoolwork and actively competitive in other areas, the teacher can narrow down the cause to

the academic reward system and their professionalism (Day, 2020).

The teacher should use three methods of changing academic culture (Ryan, 2020) to

reduce complacency and motivate Sadie to work harder and utilize her brilliance better:

1. She should privately and publicly recognize Sadie's efforts to show her genuine

interest and confidence in her smartness.

MOTIVATION 3

2. The educator must reward Sadie for her work and challenge her to do better if she

wants more of the same.

3. The teacher can ask Sadie's parents to increase her schoolwork involvement since her

natural eagerness to impress them can push her to use her bright mind better in school

and life.
