THE DEFINITION
• A recount text is a kind of text to retell the series of events
or experiences which happened to the participant in the past
in a chronologically order.
Recount text can be factual information, such as a new story
or procedural information, telling a family holiday, etc.
Read the text carefully.
Last holiday, my family and I visited Lembah Pelangi Waterfall in Ngarip District, in Tanggamus
Regency, Lampung Province, Indonesia. It was the first time for me to visit such a wonderful place.

To reach the waterfall location, we should go on foot after having a three hours trip on a motorcycle
from Bandar Lampung, the capital city of Lampung. After we arrived there, I was amazed by the
beautiful scenery of the waterfall. The water was so clean and fresh that I jumped into it immediately.
It was quite windy there and all I could see was only green, green, and green. The sound of the
falling water made me feel peaceful and relaxed.

Finally, the day was getting dark and it was time for us to go home. It was such an
unforgettable experience for me that I really enjoyed.
The Generic structure

The language features of the recount text are as follows:
• Using the simple past tense (verb 2 and to be was/were)

days ago, in the afternoon etc
• Focus on a specific participant, e.g. I (the writer), we
• Using the temporal conjunctions, such as: then, before, after, etc.
