ANNEXURE # 1

SPECIFICATION FOR POLYELECTROLYTE

Primary coagulant and flocculent cationic polyelectrolyte (Diallyl Dimethyl Ammonium

Chloride) polymer for effective reduction of turbidity in raw water at clarifier. The
turbidity at the clarifier outlets has to be maintained below 20 NTU . The total quantity of
cationic polyelectrolyte (DADMAC) required is 35 tons.

1.0 PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS:

1.1 CATIONIC POLYELECTROLYTE( DADMAC):

1.1.1 Viscous, clear, colourless to pale yellow liquid, free of visible foreign matter,
sediment and turbidity.
1.1.2 Kinematic Viscosity : 40-100 cst at 25oC
1.1.3 Sodium : 1.50 % of total active polymer.
1.1.4 pH at 25oC : 4.0 – 6.0
1.1.5 Active Content : 20% minimum.
1.1.6 Monomer(%) : <5

2.0 OBJECTIVE:

2.1 To reduce turbidity in raw water from a maximum turbidity of 3000 NTU (during
peak monsoon season) and average 600 NTU to 20 NTU (maximum) in clarified
water.
2.2 It should not corrode the system material, mainly mild steel, admiralty brass,
cupronickel and stainless steel.
2.3 The treatment period will be of two years (730 days), counted from the starting of
addition of chemicals.

3.0 REQUIREMENTS:

3.1 Formulation shall be compatible to chlorine dosage and should not increase the
chlorine demand of raw water appreciably.
3.2 Formulation should not affect the operation of D.M.Plant either by change of
ionic load of water or fouling of resins.
3.3 Formulation, under any circumstances, should not cause any hazardous effect in
the environment.
3.4 The treatment is to be carried out for 730 days with 35 tons of cationic
polyelectrolyte (DADMAC) of 20 % active content (minimum).

4.0 Material shall be accepted / rejected based on the sample analysis of chemical lab
NAPS.

5.0 SUPPLY SCHEDULE :

5.1 There shall be staggered supply as per the requirement. The exact schedule shall
be given to the supplier later on.
5.2 The supplier should supply cationic polyelectrolyte in 50 kg good quality HDPE
Drum with chemical description printed on each drum.
5.3 MSDS for cationic polyelectrolyte should be provided along with supply of
material.
5.4 Approved IS laboratory test certificate or manufacturer test certificate to be
supplied with each lot of supply and test certificate should contain all parameters
as indicated in the specification clause no. 1.1
5.5 Total material is to be supplier in five equal lots of 7000 kgs each against specific
requisition issued during the period of contract.
5.6 Delivery period of material of each lot should be within 30 days from the date of
issue of requisition.

6.0 The supplier should provide technical literature & testing procedure alongwith the
quotation.
