CASE STUDY: A Day in the Life of a Leader


1. What are the different performance requirements in each of Tom’s leadership
roles?
The first performance requirements will be the setting of goals for himself and his
organization. As we know from the case study he is planning to expand acquire another
bank that would make his bank largest in that region. Before that he was to consider so
many things such as will the brand of his bank will get affected if he acquired new bank, also
will it affect the existing management structure and workforce.
The second performance criteria will be Managing employees towards direction of
achieving goals. From the case study we can see that by acquiring new bank he need bring
more workforce and new executives with qualities such as trustworthy, smart, hardworking,
communication with workforce and customers as well as the executive preference. In the
case story it is clearly explained how he handles and approaches all the departments in their
decision making helping them by giving ideas in discussion etc. He is also scoutmaster he is
involved in hiring new young recruits where he guides and teaches the qualities required for
being a leader and motivational speech
The third performance criteria will be managing self to comply with various
demands. As he was involved in 3 major roles at a time he should self-motivate himself and
should be highly emotional stable at the same time so that it won’t affect his thinking ability
and while making important decisions.

2. What key attributes would Tom need to succeed in each leadership role? What
attributes are common across all the roles? What attributes are unique to each
role?

The key attributes that tom needed to succeed in leadership role of his organisation
will be Decision making, Problem solving skills, General Intelligence, administrative
skills, extraversion, agreeableness, achievement orientation, creative/divergent
thinking capabilities etc. and if he try consultative C2 approach it would be more
useful for him since he is many works at a single time. For the chair of states
infrastructure development commission, the key attributes needed are Extraversion,
Agreeableness- he should take all the information and the points from the members,
achievement orientation, Social acuity, ambition since he wanted this project to be
done, and communication skills to pursue and convince the idea he wanted to do
and to be accepted and move forward with members. And finally for the District
Republican committee the key attributes are achievement orientation, negotiation
skill, communication skill, Dominance, emotional regulation as there is chances of
issues getting worse or heated up.

3. . What personal qualities does Tom possess that help him display different
behaviours in each role and lead successfully in the different roles?

Below are the personal qualities that tom possess that helped him to display
different behaviours in each role

 Bank Ceo – The tom had good management skills. He was flexible was able to
do multiple work without any problem. He is very dedicated and hardworking
to achieve his goals. He has a very good decision making and problem solving
skills.
 State infrastructure development committee – The main skilled he used here
is communication skill as he need to convince the members. The others skill is
ambition and determination to do this project. He also showcased social
responsibility and social acuity.
 Districts Republican Committee – He showed leadership quality in decision
making, Supportive leadership behaviour, effective negotiation skill and
communication skill and also a good networking skill to find the donors of his
candidate
