Redesigned launcher
Here’s my take on fixing some of the most common problems plaguing the user-experience
Input shortcuts
The user could either pick icons for each input from a small library of generic icons for commonly used devices or based on the
HDMI protocol, the devices would identify themselves and the system could show the appropriate icon. The icon for an input
would only appear if a device was connected to that input. Clicking the icon would switch to that input immediately.
Better shadows
Some may see this as a purely visual improvement
but shadows in digital surfaces are very helpful in
understanding hierarchy and making more engaging
and responsive experiences possible
App market shortcut
A subtle shortcut was placed allowing users to
quickly open the app store of their choice. Since the
Better app tiles device is not compatible with the official Google
Users would have the ability to set their own Play store and users often install 3rd party stores,
background color and icon or fetch one through the app store would be user-configurable through a
a tiny crowd-sourced repository of app icons, new setting under the settings menu
allowing them to set custom, crisp icons that really
make the projector’s high resolution shine, literally
Custom wallpapers
As text protection layers have been applied to the background and subtle shadows
have been applied to the text, the user can be given more freedom to customize the
device with their own wallpapers
