The raw visual reaction I get from this is
astounding. The strength is astounding. The
emphasis is on the man, his read being
chopped off frames his expression. But the
wider over arching figures of the women, one
who's holding down the man and the other
who is chopping his head off. You get a sense
of motion you feel as if the sword could escape
the head at any time.

Important background information.
The artist is artemisia gentileschi, a female
painter in the renaissance, at a young age she
was raped so you can see that aggression in
her work. Her art depicts female protagonists,
breaking down the traditional feminan traits of
the time. Her women show aggression and
strength and this piece frames this all.

I love this piece. The determination on the

womens face, so professional. She knows
what she is doing; she knows how to drive
that sword into the man's neck. I love how
well defined the clothing is, moving in a
realistic way, like yes this is how the cloth
distorts when you are cutting someone's
head off. I believe the story told is biblical
in nature but i don't know.

I see this theme of taking matters in one's
hands. Look at the woman's face. It's so
professional she knows what she is doing.
And the second woman holding down the man
knows what she's doing. This raw power.

woman and I love how powerful the piece
