bearing of 153o from W, WYZ  51 , WZY  85 , Y is due south of Z, WZ = 8.7 km and

3. (a) Susan invested $50,000 over a period of 4 years into two different investment plans.
Plan A offers 6.25% per annum compound interest compounded annually.
Plan B offers 6% per annum compound interest compounded monthly.

Which plan is a better choice? Show your working clearly. [4]

(b) Mrs. Judy bought an LCD TV set under a hire purchase scheme with a monthly
instalment of $146.70 for 24 months and a down payment of 12% of the cash price.
If she paid a total of $3952.15 under the hire-purchase scheme.  Find
(i)      the cash price of the LCD TV, correct to 2 significant figures. [2]
(ii)     the rate of interest per annum charged by the hire purchase scheme, correct to
2 significant figures. [4]

(c) Mr Chen changed S$3500 into Australian currency for his trip to Perth. Upon returning,
he changed the remaining A$80 into Singapore currency.  Given that the exchange rate is
A$1 to S$1.25, calculate the amount he spent for this trip in Singapore dollar. [2]

5. Bubble Tea, Fruit Juice and Bandung are drinks sold by 4 drink stalls. The number of cups for
each type of drink sold during a local drink promotion week is shown in the table below.

(a)      Represent the above information as a 3 × 4 matrix P. [1]


(b)      During the local drink promotion week, the four drink stalls charged a standard price for
any type of drink. Mani sold his drinks at  $1.40 per cup, Tabi’s at $1.80 per cup while
Wong’s and Peter’s charged $1.50 per cup.
(i)       Evaluate (1   1   1) P and explain what the elements of the matrix product represent. [2]
(ii)     Using the above matrix product and another matrix, find the total amount of money
that will be collected from the four drink stalls from the sale of all the three drinks. [2]

6. A conical container with a diameter of 8 cm and a depth of 12 cm is filled with water


to a depth of 9 cm as shown in Figure 1.

(a)      Show that the volume of water in the container, in terms of , is 27 cm3. [2]
(b)      Find the surface area of the container in contact with the water as shown in Figure 1. [2]
(c)      The container is inverted as shown in Figure 2 so that the water is now at the base of the

7. The points A, B, C, D and E lie on a circle, centre O.  AD is a diameter of the circle.  BQ is
