Philippine Arena (Santa Maria, Bulacan).

With a maximum capacity of 55,000 people, the

Philippine Arena is considered as the biggest indoor arena in the world, a title made official by
the Guinness World Records in 2014. The arena, which was officially opened in May 2014 by
Christian denomination Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) to mark their centennial celebration that year,
sits on a 99,200 sqm land and has a dome spanning 9,000 square meters. Aside from religious
occasions by INC, the venue has also hosted various other events, such as the 2014–2015 season
opening ceremonies of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and the first anniversary of
American performer Katy Perry’s The Prismatic World Tour in 2015.
Cape Bojeador Lighthouse (Burgos, Ilocos Norte). Also known as the Burgos Lighthouse, the
Cape Bojeador Lighthouse is considered as the oldest still-active Spanish-era lighthouse in the
Philippines. Built by the Spanish government as part of their plan to light up the Philippine
archipelago, the 66-foot- tall octagonal stone lighthouse was first lit in March 30, 1892, serving
as a beacon to galleons sailing through the northwestern-most point of Luzon. It was declared a
National Historical Landmark in 2004 and a National Cultural Treasure in 2005.

Far away in the North, 470 kilometers from Manila, lies the grand Paoay Church. Standing strong since 1710,
the church has been celebrated by scholars of architecture for its striking buttresses  – or supporting walls –
extending out from both sides and its rear facade. Usually, churches only decorate their front facades – unlike
this one, that is snap-worthy from all around.
It’s also no wonder that the church is still standing after hundreds of years. Along with Laoag’s Sinking Bell
Tower, Paoay Church is a solid combination of coral blocks, tree sap, stucco-plastered bricks, and timber. Its
appearance is also an example of the “Earthquake Baroque” style of architecture shared by many old buildings
in the Philippines that were destroyed in earthquakes, then rebuilt in a baroque style.
This curious, historical architectural feat in Laoag city, Ilocos Norte is a conversation topic among locals
because it’s sinking into the ground at a rate of an inch per year. Theory has it that the heavy structure of
the Sinking Bell Tower, built on sandy ground, is causing it to sink. Oddly, this old building built in 1707 has
survived numerous earthquakes through the centuries.
You can only marvel at this gem from afar because entering the tower is prohibited. Although according to
local legends, during the tower’s heyday, people on horseback were able to pass underneath – a romantic sight,
indeed.
University of Santo Tomas (Main Building)

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Main Building is standing tall and proud in front of Plaza
Mayor, a rectangular building–86 meters long and 74 meters wide–designed by Fr. Roque
Ruaño, a priest and engineer.  The structure is the first earthquake- resistant building
constructed in the Philippines.

The most significant structure within the university is the Main building, the oldest structure in the
university. The UST Main Building is located at the heart of the compound, thus the center of the
university and everything else that is related to the university. The façade of the building is unpainted
and gray. This, together with the weathering present all over the structure, gives the building an old
and historical aura. The massiveness of the structure will give the structure the grandeur an
important building of an important university must have.
The building is famous for being the first
earthquake-proof building in the country. The priest and engineer Fr. Roque Roaño designed the
building. He designed it in such a way that it is composed of forty independent structures with an
inch gap in between and filled with loose cement. Another feature of this structure is the tower with a
cross on the top to remind the students and the people about the Christian values that the university
teaches.

Atop of the structure are statues which represent different things for the university. The ‘Tria Haec’ is
near the clock on the front of the building. They represent Faith, Hope and Charity or the Fides, Spes,
Charitas. Faith is the one over the clock; hope on the left; charity on the right. Facing the building,
one sees to the left of the Tria Haec, Fr. Vincent de Beauvais, O.P., St. Augustine, St. Raymond de
Peñafort, O.P. To the right are the philosophers Aristotle, St. Albert The Great and Plato. On the side
facing P. Noval are the three great writers of tragedy Calderon de la Barca, Sophocles and William
Shakespeare. On the opposite side are the great playwrights Lope de Vega, Aristophanes and
Moliere.

Generally, this structure is a historical piece of architecture which stood the test
of time. It could be a piece of art which tells a lot of story about the university and the students and
people who walked within UST.
Mactan Bridge
Mactan Bridge is officially the Serging Osmeña Bridge that connects Mandaue City with lapu-
lapu City in Metro Cebu. It has a length of 0.864 km and is one of the two bridges that spans
across the Mactan Channel. It was constructed during the term of late President Ferdinand
Marcos, which began in 1970. It was then inaugurated in 1972 at 65 million pesos.

There are two bridges that span the Mactan Channel, connecting the islands of Cebu and
Mactan. The first is the First Mandaue-Mactan Bridge and the second is the Second Mandaue-
Mactan Bridge or more popularly known as the Marcelo Fernan Bridge. Both bridges have
become major landmarks of Cebu and they directly connect Mandaue City to Lapu-Lapu City.

The First Mandaue-Mactan Bridge is a box truss type of bridge that is 846 meters long (2,775
feet) and 9 meters wide (29 feet), and was constructed during the term of the late President
Ferdinand Marcos. The bridge was wholly designed and created by Filipino engineers. The
construction of the bridge began in 1970. It was inaugurated in 1972, at 65 million pesos.

The Mandaue-Mactan Bridge initially had toll booths on both sides of the approaches to the
bridge collecting fees from vehicles until the late 1980’s when the toll fee collection was
stopped. Afterwards, the toll booths were demolished and removed.

The Mactan–Mandaue Bridge is a truss bridge that connects between Mandaue

City with Lapu-Lapu City in Metro Cebu, Philippines. It's a first bridge they
constracted here in lapu-lapu, so people called it OLD BRIDGE .
